so, poor kicking is part of our game plan :donk: :donk: :donk: :donk: :donk: :donk: :donk: :donk: :donk: :donk: :donk:

Kicking isn't poor in general play. He's getting plenty of marks around the ground.

Admittedly it would help if he topped off his good work with a few straight kicks at goals but around the ground he's doing well.

..and I'm pretty sure most of his marks were outside kicking range.

He took some very important contested marks when we had no other option.

All in all a good game.

Obviously you missed the parts where he was totally out of position because he couldn't read the play, or when then the ball hit the ground and they setup forward entries as he was next to useless. But yes he did take what two big marks? And how many goals did he kick again? Must be close to his season average ???

Some folks angry at winning.
There was plenty of ugly footy by almost everyone today.

But out roll the same old haters.

We've won a third of our games this year.

At that rate we end up with 7 or 8 wins.

Don't think too many would have suggested that was a possibility at the start of the year.

Long way to go but clearly we have a coach with a brain who has the buy in of his players.

Lots to be happy about so far.

Was watching the defenders as we kicked a few in a row in the last. Plenty of fist pumping and genuine emotion. Love the spirit Bolton is building.

Horrible game but 4 points is 4 points.
Collingwood, Richmond, Essendon* and Hawthorn all lost.
We are above Richmond in a reset year.
What's not to like?

The team doesn't alway execute effectively but at least you can see what they are trying to achieve.

Also, that Bombers come back was as predictable as the sunrise and we withstood it.

Mental toughness is almsost as important as skill.

Was out and couldn't watch the game. That may or may not of been deliberate...

Was monitoring via Twitter, AFL Match Centre and here. An awful way to observe a game especially against these dirty filthy cheating cauliflower.

Kept thinking we'd blown it and they would run over us. Got reasonably comfortable when we kicked the 4 straight in the last quarter then got very uncomfortable again quickly.

Will happily take the win. Especially against these cauliflower. Will enjoy watching the replay. Two wins in a row, who would of thought.

Loved Bolton in the post match presser. This bloke gets it and knows exactly what's required for us to be successful on and off field. Love what he is building.

I cannot remember us playing worse and winning

Diabolical 3 goals from 48 I50 entries at one point

Daisy, Gibbs, curnow, Simpson all good

We have a better defensive score than North Melbourne. Not bad for a rebuild year. 528 against - Carlton, 538 against - North Melbourne. Shame our forward stats don't hols up as well but with the possible inclusion of Sky-Walker, Cripps, C Curnow, Silvagni, Jaksche, Everett, Wood, Cunningham, McKay, and Boekhurst there is certainly reason for hope and the potential for improvement in this area from this point onwards.

love that we won again. haven't seen us take that many contested marks in a long time (if ever). the midfield did really well to break even in clearances, an area we have performed poorly in this season, without our number one clearance player.

obviously the forward line is still very much a work in progress and there was a lot of chaos in the f50 without much system. those four out of bounds on the full shots at goal in the third quarter were very poor.

very frustrating to watch when the ball is at a stoppage on our half forward flank or on the wing, and we have zero players inside 50 - so if we win the clearance, it means everyone charges forward but there's no one there to get a quick kick forward to. this means the player in possession has to hesitate and either turns it over or gets a rushed, under pressure entry. other times, the forward line seemed really crowded with everyone getting in each others' way.

we would also often over possess the ball and not send it in when we did have options up there. a good (bad) example of this was in the last quarter when murphy and graham got the clearance, and instead of charging forward and either hitting a leading target or going to the hot spot, they shared about 5 handballs and ran it to the flank, 70m out, before getting caught and turning it over.

i really hate the kicking backward tactic (like everyone in the crowd does). if we have the ball forward of centre, we really should try and get it into a dangerous spot inside 50, rather than kicking it backwards - the risk vs reward is not worth it and rarely pays off. instead of giving our forwards some sort of opportunity to win a shot at kicking for goal, it feels like we lose ground and turn it over at least 30% of times we do it - opening ourselves right up in very bad positions. heart in mouth stuff, especially when rowe or docherty get their hands on it.

Good pick-up, China. This is a very interesting stat. A better defensive record than the top undefeated side. fix the fwd line and who knows?

Worried we'd lose?

Maybe/sort of/not really. If we won I was just thinking, who cares Essendon*** are a pathetic shell of their former self. If we lost I just thought I can't waste any more of my day off watching this sub, sub standard game of AFL football. It was just bordering on painful watching us bomb the ball to 'dumb and dumber'. :banghead: :banghead:

Regards Cazzesman

That game was akin to watching Sharknado. So crap as to be funny.

That's right, once upon a time Carlton -v- Essendon* was a Blockbuster, now it's a Mockbuster.

He's exciting isn't he! Tough and courageous and genuinely good in the air. Love the socks up and black boots he feels like he belongs in the '95 team. :-)

Best of luck I think we've found one there as Bolton said.

Rubbish nothing. Plenty of players do well around the ground without hitting the scoreboard. Called contributing, getting the ball into the forward line to create an opportunity. I assume you know that. Would help alot if he did kick a bit straighter at goal but he's certainly contributing.

if casboult cannot get his goal kicking right he will be let go.
