That pressure goal by Phillips at the end was a thing of beauty. And the way we killed off the game in the last three minutes was fantastic, given recent memories of these pricks running over us in the final minutes.

Worried we'd lose?

Maybe/sort of/not really. If we won I was just thinking, who cares Essendon** are a pathetic shell of their former self. If we lost I just thought I can't waste any more of my day off watching this sub, sub standard game of AFL football. It was just bordering on painful watching us bomb the ball to 'dumb and dumber'. :banghead: :banghead:

That game was akin to watching Sharknado. So crap as to be funny.

Agree shocking game but at least we won imagine if we lost
2nd quarter was one of worst I've seen
Good performances Phillips Byrne
Wright good murphy Gibbs good

Lamb is certainly also improving with each game

Simpson also good
Forward line diabolical

Kicking for goal kreuzer jones Casboult all diabolical

Sumner and Plowman ok but a bit down on last week -thought Kerridge was a bit down also

What a crazy game.

This is 2 weeks in a row in which we've been apart of a bizarre game but end out on top. Maybe every week we should make it insane and we could win a few more, lol

Anyway, very nice to get the chocolates, like others have said, Daisy was great all game, starting to get continuity in his footy.

I felt we were better than the scum most of the game and we should of killed off the game much much earlier.

Terrible first 3/4 in front of goal. But great defence for much of the game. They did cut through the middle a bit and if they were any good we would have been punished, but generally our defence was great.

Casbolt great on the wings and did well there as the guy must be totally depressed with his efforts for goal - I sure was.
Phillips very good and simmo and curnow outstanding. Thought simmo was going to get killed near the end going back with the flight. Gibbs a good game - always in a 'setting up the play position. Liked murphy's contribution and byrne early. Thomas was very good - wish he could kick longer than 35m but he ran hard and set things up.

Great to get a win no matter how low the standard. Just wish we had a functioning forward line. Watched Jones and often he was more focus on pushing players - does better when he just keeps his eyes on the ball. Kruezer held a couple of grabs and got off the ground in the ruck but still a loooong way to go.

I did notice that we rarely shepherd. Even when we do a 'one-two' we don't block the chaser. The emphasis appears to be on staying free rather than go in and block or shepherd for the ball carrier.

In the last quarter it came down to centre clearances and we did pretty well.
My first game in 8 years as finally back in Melbourne and the first AFL game for my 2 kids. They were ecstatic!!

Bolts and company are definitely going about it the right way. We may lose, no, we will lose many a game this season. But if we can cut down those losing margins by improving our defensive stucture, that will be a verifiable proof to the playing group we are improving, and will go a long ways instilling confidence in the vision and process.

Beating the scum is such a marvellous feeling. If we were in Hawthorns shoes with 3 flags on the trot, and Essendon* on the bottom of the ladder, I'd still enjoy beating them as we did today.

Casboult was terrific as our "get out of the shit " option.

Obviously his kicking is an issue but he was absolutely vital to the game plan.

That defensive structure is starting to become habitual.

Every layman talking about us has noticed how hard we are defending this year.

The application across the board is a pleasure to watch, even if our skills aren't!

Pros:
Gibbs, Kerridge, Murphy all working well together
Phillips played an AFL standard game - great mark and goal in the end
Good defensive cover. Other than 2 x 5min bursts we had them

Cons:
Forward line is stagnant. WE seem to want to kick to 2 on 2 packs.
Compulsively go wide to maintain possession - I don't understand this
Kicking for goal
Panic - still need more leadership out there. We don't have a leader in the forward line.

close in contested football. the kind of game cripps would have broken wide open. He could made a 4 or 5 goal difference, and then we'd have something to be happy about.

pies will kill us based on our ability today.

Went with a bomber supporting mate. All we could do was laugh all day at possibly the worst game of footy we had seen. To think that 2 powerhouse clubs could be so bad. It has come to this.

2015 average points against: 107
2016 average points against (so far): 88

I like what we're doing with our defence.

If we can do similar with our forward line over the next year or two we might have a football team.

Kicking isn't poor in general play. He's getting plenty of marks around the ground.

Admittedly it would help if he topped off his good work with a few straight kicks at goals but around the ground he's doing well.

Just back from the game after sitting the car park for 45 mins after the game...with only 40 k there, flower ridiculous.

Anyway my thoughts.
I feel our biggest issue is our fwd structure. I don't know who our fwd line coach is , but our leading patterns are non existent. Jones spent half the game standing still wit his arms in the air. The other half leading toward the boundary. If we can sort this out we will be a 4 goal better side, even with our current personnel.
I thought Phillips was really good. He going past Kruezer
Plowman is a keeper, great composure
Dennis gave us a spark.
Ed started brilliantly
Lamb and Sumner getting better each game.
Byrne is going to be a star.
Time to bring KJ in and play him as a 3rd tall leading fwd.
We really need a couple of skill full, quick ball users...DVR and CUningham a spot is waiting for you
Doc needs to learn how to handball almost as much as Cas needs to learn how to kick
Big shot to win our next 2, reckon we can do it.

Rubbish nothing. Plenty of players do well around the ground without hitting the scoreboard. Called contributing, getting the ball into the forward line to create an opportunity. I assume you know that. Would help alot if he did kick a bit straighter at goal but he's certainly contributing.
