He came to our club through his father, was nurtured, indulged, then took his potential elsewhere and delivered. Thanks Jarryd!

I think our anger should be directed at the AFL. Didn't mind him leaving but to receive no draft compensation for him is another example of an incompetent AFL administration. Given the AFL saw fit to compensate the Dees with pick 2 (not sure but it was up there) for Spud Frawley we have been bent over yet again. You can't have a half arsed free agency scheme where the cost is borne by clubs not involved. The Kangas have exploited it well.

After the initial draft, players should be free to move between clubs like any other professional in employment upon their contracts expiring. Clubs will have to manage their list management within the salary cap. Otherwise the current free agency arrangements need to be scrapped.

Conundrum

The AFL valued wait on his then current form rather than what Norf were paying him. They took it upon themselves to determine Norf were wasting their money. Shit system - shit competition.

When he left it was all: we deserve a third round pick on here.

If the compensation pick was based on future performance then we would have two first rounders for Betts and Waite. And Collingwood would have received nothing for Daisy.

Free agency is a farce.

Not helping Carlton is part of the AFL Mission Statement.

Compo should never have come into it. The subjective nature of the compo is the major issue. If every club is on an even playing field salary cap wise, then the cap space created by losing a player to free agency should then be enough compensation. you now have X thousands of dollars in your cap. You now have that money to throw at other players, whether that is to retain current players or recruit from outside the club. The AFL have created a garbage system where some clubs get high compensation for a crocked player (collingwood/daisy) and others get SFA for a player that plays career best footy (Carlton/Waite) Just another example of incompetent administration and a competition completely skewed by unfair manipulation.

Just water it down like they do in the NFL, and then offer franchise tags. The NFL have spent years refining that system and it works well.
