This.

The lamentable disposal skills and ineffectual forward line (how many years have I been saying this?) are of just a little more concern.

I spent the arvy watching a mate's son play in the local U18 comp and then we all went out to metricon to watch the game.

with the U18 game fresh in my mind, it provided some contrast to what we're serving up. Some of those 18 year old kids could walk straight into this team and have a better fitness base and a much better disposal then some of the scrubs we're paying.

Weitering plays and reads the game so damn well. I was a regular at PP in the 90's and weiters can be every bit as good as SOS. Even the guys and girls I was at the game with last night commented on how the ghost of silvagni has been resurrected into number 23.

... and that is literally where the positives ended. Cripps didn't stand out at all at ground level. Not sure how many touches he had, but other then nailing ablett to the wall and getting that free kick, I can't recall too much of anything he did. He seems to spend alotta time behind the ball walking ... and in today's game of less stoppages and more distance in between them, he kinda struggles to keep up with it all.

mind you, he's a lone hand in our midfield with the other team running through him every chance they get so he's gotta be exhausted after 10 minutes.

Rowe should never play another game again. He's becomming tits on a bull useless with his matthew watson-like agility and foot speed.

The only thing worse then Caboult's ball drop is his football IQ. So many times he misreads the play into our forward line. He just can't be where the ball is enough to make his marking any kind of asset for us.

We have ZERO small forwards and forward 50 pressure. Garlett would look great in our forwardline right about now. Why didn't we draft a small forward in the last 3 years while we let them all walk out?

I'm not sold on bolton. he says the right things, but i'm all about walking the walk. And fitness wise, we still look waaaay off the pace. We still can't kick straight. We still have too many seasoned high draft picks who are passengers and our whole entire midfield and ruck situation looks to have gone backwards from where malthouse had us ... which really does scream how pathetic we are.

I watched the bombers play on friday night and as of right now, i think that pathwork quilt of a team would dust us by 5 goals. That is how bad we are.

Kruezer is cooked. He cannot get off the ground, he can't mark it and bolton when has him playing the back 50, he can't get to the contest to spoil it.

i'm not sure what we're going to do with not one single ruck on our list who can tap to our advantage.

Bolton having an awful reality check now.

There is no point playing any of Casboult, Kreuzer or Phillips anywhere near the goals. Our worst forward line for at least 50 years that I've watched the Blues. Hope like hell that McKay and Silvagni can develop quickly.

I'm not sure there's any point in playing any of them period. Phillips just isn't up to standard. Krooz gives his all but is gone. Lumbers around the field, can't jump, can't mark. Casboult, how a player as bad a kick as him was recruited is an indictment on our club. A mark and kick player who can't kick! Doesn't take that many marks either and is a liability when the ball hits the ground. Honestly, would any of these three get a game at another AFL club?

Take some chill pills. We are looking and deciding who will be our A and B graders in 3-4 years time

From tonight you can lock
Weitering in as an A grader
We have already locked cripps in this spot

There are a few of the trade boys that might become B graders
Wright, Kerridge

Murphy, Docherty and Curnow is locked in as b graders

Charlie Curnow showed some glimpses

Cheer up, the plus tonight is Weitering, that is all I need. Most wont be there when the whips are cracking

I agree with this and enjoy your positivity.

I'm happy with the effort and that it has been pretty consistent. It's going to be a long year but if they can stick together and keep trying, it's all I can ask.

Much different game if we had just a competent forward line.

I have to keep reminding myself of this, repeating it over and over like a deranged loon. But it's still hard to sit here and watch the team struggle to amass 40 points a game because some million-dollar-a-year messiah completely gutted our team and ruined an already destitute club for another decade.

You need to. You also need to write down notes about how the players and coach react to adversity. It got ragged in the last qtr but for the most part, they maintained the game plan, which shows that they still believe.

Just be patient. We locked in our 2nd genuine A grader for the future tonight.

Cripps and Weitering now

I didnt see any bold with the ball, run and carry. We were going backwards and sideways

Pros got the first interstate trip out of the way + JW

Cons too many to mention but l will single out Broek. He may one day develop to become C+ standard but his heart is the size of a pea. Watch him carefully he tip toes to contests he is very afraid. A ridiculous 1st round selection hipster and all!

Dinking handballs to each other's backs in heavy traffic when we had options on the outside was taking quite a few risks.

The way it's worked out we've lost to the top two teams by ten goals only and have the Bulldogs next. Pretty tough way to start the year.

We have some serious issues but most of all our backline is leaking 'easy, uncontested' marks/goals.
I would have liked to have asked Bolton the question 'why'. Why did they receive so many uncontested marks at around CHF in the 1st half and then why did we have so many mismatches (how many times did our little guys get found out against bigger opposition) and why did they get over the back so easily on so many occasions (this I believe I know the answer - turnovers). Others however - Is it a structure issue or a player setup issue?

We overcommitted our forward runs and clogged up CHF, they drove superior numbers up through the corridor on the counter and ran out the game superbly. Simple.

Lynch didn't get 23 disposals just by being tall.

Kreuzer failed the Maggies fitness examination on account of his hip according to magpies sources so we remedied this by getting gorringe ( never was never will be a ruckman) Phillips who has tools but has never proven anything. Kept wood .
Kept the ruck coach who's been at the club numerous years and shown nothing

And flogged kreuzer who had an interrupted preseason and is totally struggling physically!

That's what I can planning!
