Im quite bullish about his future.

Just needs to run around a lot and may need a bit of time in the magoos after his initial taste.

like Jacobs (and unlike Hampson) I think one day it will just click.

I tend to agree (re: Ruckmen).....and I was a HUGE fan of Jacobs and knew he would come good. It pains me to se him play so well at the Crows. :-(

But Phillips made his Debut at pretty much the same age as Jacobs.......... and Jacobs looked far better than what Phillips has.

with that said though,........Ive only seen him play for us twice and a 3min highlight reel. Not much to go off.

Other than being tall and having red hair I'm not sure what Phillips has in common with Jacobs. He's more Hampson than Jacobs in my opinion. And there's nothing wrong with that, Hampson is a fine second ruckman, with good athletic attributes, just don't expect him to have the consistency to compete for All-Australian spots or regularly dominate games of footy.

Buckley had an absolute shocker in Rnd1 jimmae. His best position is running off half back, but Tuohey, Docherty and Byrne have him covered in all aspects. He will have to reinvent himself as a small forward or he's going to find himself missing out.

I don't think it was a shocker. I was more shocked with some of the things I was seeing from old men Simmo and Walker thb.

I've gone over the game a couple of times and was mindful of his 7 possessions and thought he provided a lot of energy and pressure acts.
He closed down space with his tenacity and forced Richmond errors. You don't get stats for those things.

Lets face it small forwards at Carlton were doing well because we got the ball in quickly in Rattens days, problem was with accuracy and turnovers (still is) and players like Betts and Garlett are doing much better at Melbourne and Adelaide so its a bit of a small forwards graveyard at Carlton.

If we bring in players who show form in the ressies its Dick and Byrne. Both of those would slot in the backline to cover their fast backmen who run and carry. They have a bterr chance of doing this than Rowe and White, but then again I think Rowe is the only one big enough to man up Lynch. If so, Jammo should go.

I think there's a spot for Buckley. I think he shows the same intensity as Lamb and has more runs on the Blue Board than Lamb imo. I'd have Buckley ahead of Lamb.

Last night I spoke with Lambs mentor who flew to the game on Sunday to give him a gee up. He didn't give me much, but knowing him he's probably conceding failure in doing so because...I know what he's like.

With Walker confirmed as out for a few more weeks Curnow will get his chance to string some matches together.
In terms of predicting what the match committee will do, I don't think they'll wield the axe. I think Rowe might get a game as a matchup for Lynch, so I think White could be pushed out so they can give Byrne a run.

I'd be pretty happy with this.

Out: White, Phillips, Lamb

Int: Byrne, Jaksch, Buckley

If they want to go even shorter, bring in Smith instead of Jaksch.

Athletically he is similar to Hampson but having grown up playing the sport (which is why I referenced Jacobs) I believe that he has more potential.

Phillips is a better kick than Hampson already and doesn't have Hammers brain fades.

So other than having a hot sister, what does that mean?

Terrible stats on the weekend.

Andrew, not his sister.

Our only hope is if the Suns do a Dees this week and drink their own bath water and take us lightly.

This will tell me where we're at to be honest.

Richmond - meh, didn't look that good

Swans - very good.... are we really 90 points worse than them and actually performed ok?

Suns - some good players and good form but really....

If we come away with another 10 goal loss you'd have thought it's last or second last - have to be able to compete and in fact beat teams like this.

90 points worse than Sydney?

Wish Armfield was back this week, the exact sort of player we'll need to stifle their major weapon - run out of the backline

Isn't that what Lamb and Wright are supposed to be doing ?

I'll only be looking at how we are working out structures.. Keeping to the plan especially under when and if we're under the pump

Scoreboard means nothing at this stage
