There's clearly a number somewhere shy of 50k, including allowing for churn, of supporters who will purchase a Carlton membership. It must be head-scratching for those inside the bubble...as they've done just about all they can to encourage take up of the season ticket. Is the answer as simple as apathy? I think it is.

As I said, Carlton supporters are a unique breed....need to get their heads out of the clouds and realise it ain't the VFL anymore.

Maybe true of some - but worth remembering that being a Carlton supporter doesn't have to equate to purchasing a membership. Many are quite content watching their team play on TV (or tablet or phone) each week...or as I did - as a background activity (I watched the first and last quarters) while doing something else.

No doubt Doc, Collingwood has a million supporters and 75k are members.

It'll be the same at all clubs, we've just got too many pyning for the glory years

Social Media is a valuable medium to marketers. More valuable would be how many of those "followers" have been converted to financial members.

Do you have a better gauge of public interest in Collingwood?

Figures done at the end of 2014 suggested they had 743,000 and Carlton 551,000. Those same figures suggested Carlton had the highest percentage of out-of-state fans (48%).

Membership according to the tracker hasnt reached 47000 ,very sad ,we are really a middle of the road club now even Geelong has more members never happened till this year.CARLTON SUPPORTERS are a apathetic lot,even the druggies with all their problems have more members than us

Hasn't been updated since Wednesday, and that's probably Tuesday's figure.

I'd say we've tippled over 47k in the interim.
