Can't blame Daisy for what he's getting paid. There is plenty of players on our list who probably overpaid based on their performances not just him.

i didn't wish a significant injury on Thomas - someone else said that
That said, Thomas came to the club with a career ending significant injury in any event.
pies knew he was finished..no but the current 7 of the 8 board who secured mick who then secured thomas with board approval

If they thought he was finished, why did they offer him a contract? Granted not what we are paying him but 1 was on the table.

you ask the pies that. my mail was they wanted him out

There was a contract on the table. Dale didn't want to take a pay cut so he left.

In a way you are right. They low balled him enough to make him look elsewhere.

As smart as the Pies were in offloading Daisy to us, they were ridiculously stupid in giving Cloke the contract he got. We should consider ourselves very lucky Cloke didn't accept the offer that the Blues put to him. Could you imagine that, Cloke and Daisy taking up the majority of our salary cap?

Yep. We dodged a tomahawk missile there, not a bullet.

Look we like to joke about Daisy being on eleventy billion a year, but the majority of the salary cap is - at a minimum - $5.11 million.

Interesting to again see how ruthless SOS will be at the end of this looooong year..... ?

yes it will be a long year.

i expect minimum 10 delisted this year

JUST PAY DAISYS CONTRACT OUT NOW AND GET HIM OUT OF THE JOINT

who do you think would go mozzie? i would think simmo would stay of he wants to, but jamo, rowe, walker would all be cooked. i would like to keep jamo for support to weitering though

buckley would be on shaky ground, as would clem and possibly whiley. a few rookies will go, but they dont count really as they arent on the senior list

white would be lucky, but he has a big body and grunt

i personally would like to trade gibbs for s high draft pick while he has currency, but would the club be so brave?

surely jones, tutt and daisy must be gone at years end? are there clauses in their contracts for extensions? if so, thats my 10

wouldnt be fussed if dick left, would like to give foster another year

I actually think 'smarter' is the key there. We don't have enough smart footballers. Smart players with clean disposal are key to our structure.

No club, including the dominant ones in the last decade, have nailed all their picks all the time. List management is as much about turning players over and recycling players until you find a few, as it is getting picks 100% right all of the time.

Footy isn't my line of work, but it seems to me that successful lists are built by:

1) Bringing in quality draft picks and hitting more than you miss (Cripps, Weitering, Curnow, Boekhurst... and likely McKay who would have probably gone top 3 this year if he was a week older)
2) Giving opportunities to players who have all the physical attributes but perhaps were set back by injury or denied opportunity by a club with depth (think KJ, Gorringe and the GWS four)
3) Astute trading (think Menzel for Kerridge and Pick 28)
4) Creating a culture and environment that entices players to want to come to your club (Docherty mainly picked us because he's a die hard fan, but it's an example of what can be achieved when a player nominates your club. One possible win this year may yet be Tomlinson assuming he does the same)
5) Managing the cap to allow a star free agent or two to slot in when the foundations are built

I would argue that we've been executing on points 1, 2 and 3 very well. Points 4 and 5 will take a few years. Accordingly I renewed my captains club membership and am on board for the ride.

Give me a Diesel/Sam Mitchell type every day off the week.
Swans had 5 of them.....JK,Hannebery,Parker,Jack,Mitchell and absolutely smashed us.

Byrne, Sheehan, Sumner, Plowman are a start
Extra mids I agree with
Give the club a break on injuries, more than 1 draft and a loss agai st a top 4 side

I think the swans have the premier midfield list in the competition.

McVeigh
Hannebery
Heeney
Mitchell
Kennedy
Mills
Jack
Parker

It is no disgrace to lose to the swans. I think with the lower rotations their structure is the best in the competition. Premiers this year for mine.

We simply dont bat far enough down to compete with their midfield.
What I felt was a positive, was that we stayed with them for 1.5 quarters. Then the game was broken open when we missed some easy shots in the second quarter and they took the game away from us after that.
Let us not forget that these guys are all elite midfielders -there are simply no weak links there. Relentless.
Are we a long way away from the swans? Yes. But I feel that there are a bunch of other teams that are as well. I get the same feeling about this midfield as i did the geelong midfield in its early days- ready to explode.
We need another three top midfielders.
1. First pick 2016 draft
2 free agent eg Tom Mitchell
3 ????

Can Cuningham be one?

If we have another terrible year (<4 wins) would the AFL do the unthinkable and award us a priority pick?

I agree that Sydney are in for a big year. At least we performed better than Collingwood.

Good to hear a bit of positivity out for the pirate! Thinks we might win 5 or more!
