Did Collins play? But whatever, that mature age recruit Marcus Adams did alright. A 20-something key defender is something to look into next year.

If the brief for a modern footballer is they need to be able to perform multiple roles then Adams fits the bill.

Obviously a backman but you can put him forward no problem at all. Good strong grab, good long and straight kick.

Not sure where he went in the draft but he was terrific for West Perth.

Any similar prospects who could just slot straight into the side like Adams out that way? Or was his 2015 an exceptional year which got him noticed?

Was just his second year giving the WAFL a real crack:

Late second round.

A key defender was probably something to look into last year. When your key back stocks are Sam Rowe and Michael Jamison, it's pretty odd that you wouldn't take Kieran Collins with pick 23.

And yet, we drafted two key defenders

I'd prefer not to waste whatever this Weitering monster can be at full back.

That's why we drafted JGM supposedly, and if he builds his endurance up, he will be said full back.

Go check out the next VFL practice match and see what's what. I wasn't sold him at first either but he's been training well by all reports, and it showed against the Richmond VFL team.

i only really notice West Perth and whoever they are playing that day. GF replay on Saturday v Subiaco which should be good, they are tipping a big crowd.

But Adams wasn't hidden in a box. There was strong speculation he was going to be drafted the year before . Someone mentioned Rodda as a roughy on here but the guy only has one gear and it's not R for race. Other than that it's on-ballers.

Let's see, Rowe, Jamo & Weitering all played in the backline against the Tigers... so we took JGM in the rookie draft to replace Rowe, Jamo etc

There was the view that Weitering was the second best key forward in the draft, and Bolts was talking about Weitering being our swingman, and going forward... who goes back? Bolts doesn't have much flexibility... what if JGM doesn't make it? Even if he does, we need more...

What happens if Jamo or Rowe get hurt (or both)?

We have KJ, but he seems to be a better forward...

Perhaps in the last 2 drafts we might have taken some more key defenders considering the age and decline of Jamo and Rowe...

In 2014, Goddard, Mcdonald and McGovern were available... the last 2 were cheap and look ok!!

The Dogs took Collins and Adams in last year's draft after our first 4 selections...

We have no depth in this area, and only have ourselves to blame!!

You're forgetting Plowman, Jaksch and White, but I agree that we need to replenish in the next 3 drafts.

Weitering and McKay this year is a good start in the first of three drafts.

They should try Silvagni at full back. I am too young to remember but apparently his dad was OK or pretty flower good!.

At 192cm is Plowman able to play as a key position defender? He doesn't seem that tall for that role.

Jamo has struggled at 193cm.
