The largest positive appears to be that our game plan is a very good one and one that will allow us to attack and defend equally well. The negative is that there are still a couple of weak links that will hurt us most weeks.

Casboult's kicking hurt us, but let's not kid ourselves, he's essential to our structure and our only player that you can kick the ball high and long to and have confidence that he could take a grab or at least give us a 50/50 at ground level. He can't be dropped.

Kerridge made some mistakes. We should expect that he's going to lack polish. His game is built on gut running. If he had great polish and elite skills he would've been a regular at the Crows. He has a role to play, an important one as a depth midfielder, but some let the pre-season form let them get carried away with their expectations of the bloke.

We're blooding youngsters who are ready to play. Cripps, Weitering, Docherty, Boekhorst and Graham are building blocks for this club. Curnow, Cunningham, McKay, Silvagni, DVR etc will hopefully add to that and be integrated as they become ready. We need them to come on so we can filter out some of the older guys who aren't up to it. We weren't actually a young team out there tonight, but the young guys who played do appear to be of quality.

The Solution to Levi's problem is simple: Play him at CHF and let him mark every ball that comes at him beyond the 50m arc. He will kick them from there, or he can at least dish them off to a full forward who can kick....Do not play him close to goal....

The problem is, he does not have an engine of a CHF... he is too slow...I don't know what they can do with him.... we can't just drop him... his marking is too important to the team, and his crushing of packs created many of our goals tonight!!

Mackay & Currnow will need time to develop but they will be the real solution to our forward line!

We finished wooden spooners last year, and recruited a bunch of guys that won't be playing instinctive team style footy straight off the bat any time soon. Taking that into account, I'm actually quite please/shocked with tonight's results.

Casboult missing goals should come as no surprise, its not like he's ever been anything different since we recruited him. He's big, has a reasonable set of hands and that's an instant in, which shouldn't be the case but beggars can't be choosers.

A few costly errors but a whole lot of team energy nearly got us over the line. It doesn't take much either way to start stringing them together or falling flat (Welcome to the big boy's league Bolt's ...)

I come away with more positives from tonight’s game than negatives. There were sections of play tonight that were truly exciting, moving the ball forward as good as any in the business.

A little scrubby at times, but its early days yet. We finished last for a reason, its a little ridiculous to be expecting results against a finals contender who will only improve as the season progresses. I don't think Richmond are a top 12 team by any stretch. They'll see September action, no doubt.

Carlton won't. We'll improve no doubt and maybe even get a couple of scalps during the season just to give us a glimmer of things to come. Another terrible year might see us pick up something decent up forward. God knows we desperately need it.

Need them in the next few years as the young 18 year olds with lighter frames develop, but all players listed above, along with Sam Rowe and Levi, should not be at the Club post 2017.

How good was that lightning handball chain from half back that led to Cripps' goal? One of the most exciting Carlton team goals I've seen in some time.

Can't see Everitt being dropped, the guy can kick goals including from 50m out. That makes him unique in our team.

Casboults kicking last season was the best it's been. What ever Sav done last year, do that again. You could see with casboults first attempt the confidence wasn't there.

Thought boeky was also good along with wright and all the others mentioned.
Casboult..hmm
They must continue with goal kicking coach.
We know it takes a while..think Hawkins.. was mentioned he needs to hold the ball longer before dropping it to his foot
Kerridge..I think he had debut for cfc nerves and will be really gòod for us.
Weitering cripps...superstar premiership players in the future for us.
Murph was amazing. Gibbs. Great to see his spirit is back.
Loved Phillips.
Bucks has speed. .i think give him a chance..might have been nerves with him too?
White was ok for mine..gotta have the workers like him.
Curnow was outstanding speaking of workers.
Geez they made me happy last nite. Yes.. could have won it..
Gonna be a lot of 'almost' this year. Gotta get that missing forward superstar next draft..
Then 17 here we come.
Bolts..thankyou!

Yes. Persist due to marking ability.
Walks..flashes of past greatness.
That one handed grab!!! Oh my :D
But..he is a sensitive one and went back in his shell a few times after misses at goal. Hope he can really shine this year.

Yup that's right Hawkins was 27 when he learnt to kick. Casboult has plenty of time on his side.

sav got the boot didn't he. (no pun intended – well, maybe a little).

bring sav back and pay him 15% of cas's wage.
