Sticks I'm a bit older than that and I can tell you it is absolutely the worst forward line for the club I have seen :yikes:

Hopefully Curnow McKay and Silvagni all turn out to be competent forwards

I still think Jaksch is a forward and could be quite decent

Can't lose Garlett Betts Waite Henderson all at one time in the last 5 years our top goal kickers and replace them with a couple of draft picks (who could be eventually good see above ) and jones and tutt

Just watched it.

I thought the defensive pressure inside 50 was the best since Eddie and Garlett. We held it in there for minutes at a time only to have poor disposal result in a turnover.
Kreuzer and Casboult flew for several marks against each other. The forward coach will need to get on to that. We are going to need one of McKay or Gorringe to step up.
We remain hopeless at transition footy. There is something wrong with the defensive structure if the opposition can just run two or three players past our last man and then have Franklin isolated.
I thought the endeavour was good. We fought it out to the end and apart from a few lapses that cost us cheap goals, we were almost in with a sniff of a close game. There was just a hint of mongrel in the team as well. We need that.
If we play like that in two weeks we can win but the forwards have to be better structured.
I think we get lass than 50% of the line ball umpiring decisions. Thomas is hated by the umps. He got fifty for saying "he kicked me in the face." Plus he had a few silly frees against. Our crowd noise has to be like Collingwood's where they can sway the decision making from the stands.

Hannaberry is a star. Almost as good as Cripps.

Graham will play 22 games this year if he can avoid injury. Fearless and a big tank.
BB can play footy
Kerridge was a great get.
Buckley is coming along nicely
Weitering will be great

It's going to be a long season but I think we are on the way.

Same old same old same old
Has, and will never live up to his potential!

And, while I'm at it, Casboult is no good. Would happily take a late second rounder for him
Can't kick, marking inconsistent, no football brain, does little when ball on the ground and has the turning circle of the Costa Concordia (before captain coward ran it aground

What's his excuse now? Looks passed it. He's become a desperate player who gives 100% diving on the ball head first which is commendable but the result of that effort is zilch.
I couldn't pick him for round 1 based on the form I've seen thus far this season.

@#$%&! you Malthouse. Cant wait for Daisy and Bettsy to retire just so I don't think of that Mick Martyn guy and his 300 game record compliments of his past coach...oops I meant that egotistical flower has been Mick Malthouse who broke the coaching record and recruited one of his past players, a dud for $700K. Makes me sick to think Fisher retired on 99.

Still amazed that they didn't give him his 100th game after bagging 10 in the VFL.

It amazes the number of posts on this forum referencing Daisy and Betts compared to the 30 dud picks pre 2013 and the dud down hill skiing game plan we used from 2008 to 2012, which was covered over by Judds brilliance. It is just so easy to blame malthouse for our current predicament instead of apportioning most of it on the 5 years of negligence that preceeded him

Was bought up on Fox Footy the other night that none of our first round picks from 2008 to 2012 are still in our list which shows how poor our drafting, development and culture was. Which is why we have had to trade in heaps of blokes in the 21-24 age bracket the last 2 years.

Again you’re right on the money
The flowers inability to kick with any direct power and distance or make any impact what so ever is the due to the fact that ratten took a wooden spooner to the finals 3 out of 5 years he coach and not to the fact that me me me micky brought every reject that eddie discarded from the gums making us his own personal dumping ground (including mighty mick)
If that wasn’t bad enough he ostracised anybody that had an ounce of assertion to go against his demented game plan and replaced them with other top up duds
Yep not micky it’s all rattens !@#$%^& fault
I’d tell you to get your hand off it or you might go blind but for some reason I think on some level it might already be too late

We definitely missed the chance to capitalize on the lofty heights of 3 points away from a prelim

Well, not so much 'had to'; I still think we've overdone that a little.

I must admit I don't understand the cult of the short term fall. Is it some sort of aproved glitch to cover the hurt of the fact that we've been pretty much crap since the fall of our great 1995 side. Even before then we failed to make provisions for the future. Carlton simply failed to progress to the draft era. There has been a succession of coaches that tried to be competitive with an incomplete list because it's bred into them to never go backward. They compromised too much with the list and Malthouse was just the last of them.

Sheer intellectual brilliance this post. 15 years of failure due to Daisy Thomas. In which era was Cripps and bokeheurst recruited? Who started turning over the list? Malthouse had a aggrerious faults but scapegoating him is unreasonable

You do realise we have more number 1 and 2 than any other club.
I still think people put too much emphasis on the draft.
We have had our fair share of early draft picks since 2002
Problem has been what we have done to them to develop them further.
People say we have the worst list but 4 number ones is stuff dreams should be made of

Not completely.

We got over 100 games out of Yarran and traded Menzel off before his career has even begun.

Of the trio of Lucas, Watson and Bootsma, only Bootsma didn't make the best 22 under 18 players in the country. Not the best choices as it turned out, but Bootsma aside, sound theory behind their recruitment.

It's the abomination that has been the picks following our 1st which have cost us dearly.
