Richmond small-forward Shane Edwards has been cleared of major damage to his shoulder following his early exit from last night’s NAB Challenge match against Port Adelaide at Etihad Stadium.

Edwards left the game in the first quarter after hurting his shoulder, but the injury is not as severe as first thought.

X-rays last night revealed no fractures, and further scans on Friday morning indicate the 27-year-old suffered severe bruising and some nerve swelling to his left shoulder.

“Shane should recover quickly from the bruising, we’ll assess it further early next week, but at this stage we’re confident his preparation for Round 1 won’t be interrupted,” Richmond’s General Manager of Football, Dan Richardson said.

The news for defender, Reece Conca wasn’t as positive with scans revealing a strain to his right hamstring.

While no surgery is required, the 23-year-old will be on the sidelines for at least eight weeks.

“It’s disappointing for Reece, he’s had a great pre-season thus far, but we’ll go through a thorough rehab process with him, and look forward to him making a contribution for us later in the season,” Richardson said.

Midfielder, Shaun Grigg has fractured his left thumb and at this stage is expected to miss 3-4 weeks of the season.

As expected, new recruit, Jacob Townsend was concussed after hitting his head in a tackling contest in the third quarter of last night’s match, but is expected to recover fully and be available for selection in Round 1.

But Eddie Maguire told us his "inside sources" had confirmed broken collarbone, plate to be put in, 6 weeks out minimum.

...and Cam Moody said you could tell it was a broken collarbone by the way he was walking.!!!!

FMD, these @#$%&! people.

Round 1 team based on the pre season:

Tuohy Jamo White
Simo Weitering Doc
Boekhurst Cripps E.Curnow
Graham Levi Kerridge
Wright Walker Lamb
Kreuz Gibbs Murph

Whiley C. Curnow Buckley Byrne

White in over Rowe as he looks less likely to drop uncontested chest marks and is more confident when he has the ball in hand
Casboult to chop out for Kruez in the ruck, which i know leaves us small up forward but Phillips and Gorringe haven't shown enough for me.
Everitt looked disinterested last night which is why C. Curnow is in for him. Bryne for Daisy as were rebuilding lets give some youth a chance.
Look out Tiges

I reckon this will be the team ... not because I think its the best team but rather because of what has been signaled through the pre-season.

Just a few points.
I think Everitt will be there ... our leading goal scorer from last year and I reckon Bolton knows we have to pick him still because there is no one else.
Dale Thomas is getting his hands on the ball even though his disposal has been terrible.
Bolton looks like he favours a second ruck option in Phillips.
Bolton has spoken positively about Bucks and Lamb ... they are locked in for round 1.
Jamo has been pretty poor as well ... so a toss up between him and Rowe ... not a great choice.

Simpson Jamison White
Doherty Weitering Tuohy
Boekhorst Gibbs Thomas
Buckley Casboult Kerridge
Walker Everitt Lamb

R: Kreuzer Cripps Murphy

I: Graham E.Curnow Wright Phillips

White will probably start on Martin. Jamo on J Reiwoldt. Rowe on Vickery.

I think we'll look to free up Weitering to intercept, he looks mobile enough to play on flanker types and big enough to pick up the 3rd tall if the Tigers go that way.

I reckon we will start something like:

Tuohy Jamo Weitering
Simmo Rowe White
Thomas Cripps Docherty
Graham Casboult Boekhorst
Lamb Walker Kerridge

Kreuzer Gibbs E Curnow

Buckley Murphy Phillips Wright

Everitt has played himself out of the side as far as I'm concerned. The only way I would pick him for round 1 is if the MC are worried that Walker is too underdone.

Not sure how some people are trying to fit Lamb into their team while trying to push Everitt out at the same time. On face value, they're both playing for Northern.

Lamb's defensive pressure in the forward line has been very good throughout the NAB series. Needs to get more of the pill, but his attitude looks right. I thought his big tackle in the 2nd quarter (on Rampe?) was a team lifter last night.

ABN agree thought Lamb was the best with his pressure acts in the forward line last night
Needs more of the ball but also needs to hit the scoreboard

Phillips in my view has to play given we haven't got any tall forwards so he and Kreuz must become tall forward targets
As suggested earlier all need to hold more marks in the forward line than they did last night

Understood Byrne had a good game in the twos. As much as I think dre should be in our team I think he needs a bit of time getting it together. Think I would prefer an in form Byrne over an out of form everitt

I can appreciate that, but that's setting the bar too low for getting an AFL game.

Every other forward option that's not kicking goals at the moment can play secondary roles to assist the team:

Wright - midfield
Everitt - midfield
Thomas - HB/wing
Walker - HB/wing
Gorringe - ruck
Phillips - ruck
Kreuzer - ruck
Casboult - ruck
Armfield - wing
C.Curnow - midfield
Buckley - defence/midfield

If Lamb's not kicking goals, the best thing for him is to go back to the VFL and work on some things. He'll probably kick bags, but I'm more interested in his link work and his leading patterns. It's clear he's agile, but he's not getting separation enough to earn more possessions and scoring opportunities.

Would much rather take in Armfield or Cuningham if we want a specialised role player, otherwise we can try and open things up with an extra midfielder given the plethora of mids that can do a job up forward for half a quarter.

Philips to me hasn't shown that he has the ability to play up forward. If he has taken more then 5 marks total for the pre season i would be surprised. If your gonna play ruckman up froward they have to be taking marks otherwise there useless when the ball its the ground.

..just play krooz 'almost' full time in the ruck and let him catch his breath on the bench.... ..he has the tank and hunger to do it.. ....the more time he spends in the ruck the better he is, which leaves a second ruckman spending too much time as a fwd which hurts us..

He'd probably max out at 85% game time doing that, but he'd be extremely spent. 80% is a more realistic average, so that's up to 20% of the stoppages where you need a plan B, C, etc.

I'm hoping Bolton's journey, rebuild and developments plans begins to show the green sprouts we're desperately need.
He'll be a very good coach Bolts, but it's going to take 3 to 4 years at least , for us to get respect and achievements we all crave for.

None of Waite Robinson Garlett Yarran and Henderson are that good. Eddie is a loss but please remember he is a small forward. It is a bit like saying a great 3rd slips fieldsman is key in a game of cricket.
