According to LaceOut, and based on the data from the Hawthorn match, the coaches and the training staff have the players covering an extra 21 metres per minute in each game, which works out to be 57.3 km for the team if I understood the metric correctly.

Factoring in regular season game length and the reduction of team size and assuming a 5% drop off to be conservative, that's 54.5 kms for the team, or about 2.5 kms per player in the 22 if the standard is maintained.

While there's a heap of other considerations to take, such as the intensity/speed of the running, and whether the running itself is even effective (decision making), that's sure to have us keeping our head above water for much longer in games.

So to sum it up Jimmae, they have been asked to work for their pay.

Factoring in all the soft tissue/stress reaction leg/foot/hip injuries last season, I'm not sure what the real gain is, but I'd say there is one.

An extra few metres makes a difference is a full press.

I've noticed in many of the press conferences with Bolts - and even the players - is that we're not trying to play things down and succumb to dumb footy cliches. If a journo asks if you're excited to be playing Thursday night - Of course I'm excited! - None if this droopy 'we'll take it one week at a time' crap. I like it myself, should be more of it.

Agree with this - talk it up! But be authentic.

I think Mick was really inauthentic when he was rabbiting on about how he couldn't see us losing a game.
That was lame, really poor attempt to sell memberships, and people jumped on it straight away.

But if you are genuine in your passion and enthusiasm then the Carlton-hating media might snigger, but there will be an acceptance and appreciation.

I think other supporters and footy "journalists" genuinely respect Bolts' positivity.
Hopefully that translates into wins and respect on the field

I think Bolts & Trigg have done a terrific job selling hope over the preseason.

It won't count for anything at 7:20 this evening. The club needs an early win for validation. As much as we can be rationale and say it's a long journey etc, we know that footy supporters are not rationale when the game starts. Bolts may go from being the most loved coach we've had since Jezza to having his own sakc thread within weeks....

I think tonight is more likely to be a reality check than a fairytale, but I hope I stay rationale and remember it's a long journey.

Go Baggers!

If Shane Edwards plays I'll get a feel for how competitive they're going....

And also win.
If possible.

Since the days when we used to torment the Tigers we've lost
Judd
Eddie
Jeffy
Yarran
Henderson
Menzel
Brock
Waite
Bell
Robinson
Laidler

You can question the quality and consistency of some of those guys (and some left at different times), but I'm not sure we are anywhere near having replaced them. Jamo looks to be struggling.

The Tigers are also a better unit now.

So we are asking a team that (on paper) appears to be vastly inferior to recent sides to beat a team that has improved and all we have as a (possible) improvement is Bolton's influence.

So I don't expect to win but do expect 4/4 effort.

I can't figure out the rational for that comment.

Yeah, nah, you probably shouldn't loiter on footy forum websites as much as you do if you can't cope with the occasional spelling & grammar mistake.

But thanks for playing.

Oh yee of little faith! It's Tasmanian influence! It always has been against the Tiges!

Case(s) in point:

1972 Grand Final: Richmond had comfortably beaten Carlton 3 times that year - but captain-coach John Nicholls understood the Tassie magic and put himself in the forward pocket, giving first ruck responsibilities to...you guessed it...Tasmanian Percy Jones.

1982 Grand Final: Richmond had grabbed the ascendancy and led by 11 points at half-time. In a see-sawing match, the Blues had mounted a comeback and hit the front at the 10-minute mark of the third quarter. Then Tasmania International Tourism Syndicate (TITS) launched their am(bush) marketing campaign (courtesy of Helen D’Amico) using only two props - a Carlton scarf and...yes...you guessed it...a map of Tassie.

If it was a final my kids inheritance would be on a Carlton victory.

Doc, I welcome your conversion this morning from aloof tennis playing, cravat wearing, man about town to enthusiastic Carlton supporter.

I hope to see more of it.

Now go buy a membership.
