AS most would probably be aware The Spirit of Carlton are an association for past players and officials, being a keen golfer, whom recently won my clubs President's trophy, with a nett 59 off 26 I am wondering if anyone knows when their annual golf day is? Their website isn't up to date on this matter. :thanks:

I don't think it's any time soon.

In fact, I think it's a fairway off.

It is a fairway off so pull that wedge out of your crack and don't get a wood over it!

Not sure, but I think they'll iron it out pretty soon.

The SOC has not had or been allowed to have a golf day for at least four years.

Not having any information about the non existent 2016 golf day means the website is up to date. In fact it is four years in advance of being up to date.

It was actually set up by the ex players as an independent vehicle to raise money for the current playing group at the time. It was during the 2000s when the club was spending little on facilities/innovation for the playing group.
It was also an opportunity to link the playing group with the winning culture and successful mentality of the past. Supporters were welcomed to sponsor holes and play alongside the players to raise funds. A great initiative.
Once the financial input of the supporters was no longer a necessity, they were put back in their place.

There's a lot more to it than meets the eye. Some things that were going on that were very disappointing...but that was 2011...time to move on. A good past-players association exists and it's a good one.

Supporters were asked to chip in?

Just a myth.

Time to debunker it.
