Murphy Brown would be a better Capt than MM.

Thought his captaincy was very good after Malthouse got the elbow.

Pretty sure I heard Marc's middle name is Bob, which instantly makes him a @#$%&! good captain imo

Brad Scott on Sen last night said Andrew Swallow isn't a lock for the captaincy next year. Funny how no media have said a word about it since. But the world is ending when Bolton refuses to guarantee Murph the captaincy.

Jon FREAKING Ralph wrote an article today saying we are bat **** crazy if we give the captaincy to Cripps. Did he just pull that out of his arse? When did anyone suggest we're taking the captaincy away from Murph to give to 23 gamer Cripps.

Ralph is more like Potsie - a total flog. His only competition is Slobbo - so it's easy to see why evolution is a slow process at the HUN AFL pages.

Can't we just call the leadership group 'prefects' and be done with it?

Smurf will be skipper next year... there's no doubt imo

Whether by design or just luck, Bolton's comment have drawn the playing group into endorsing Marc as captain... even made him fight for the privileged role.

Bolton just may be a genius...

It has certainly made people think about it actively.

Given the opportunity for an alternative makes all weigh up where their heads really are at.

The last 18+ months were a really complicated time to be captain. He also had injuries before 2015. He's not a great captain but having missed the opportunity to make Simmo captain back then I think they should stay with Murphy and let him grow with this new list. Plenty of time for Doch or Cripps (or #23) to become ready.
Fishing from a shallow pool for the rest of the leadership group though which I think is a bigger issue - and I reckon that's more what Bolts is referring to.

NEIL Craig was part of the team that installed Jack Grimes and Jack Trengove as Melbourne’s co-captains in 2012.

At only 20 years and 211 days old, Trengove became the youngest captain in AFL history.

But the move to make two largely inexperienced players the leaders of a struggling club backfired spectacularly.

“It’s an interesting discussion, the Melbourne one, because I lived through that and was part of the decision making on that,” Craig told 3AW’s Sports Today program.

“In hindsight that’s not a job for a young player.”

I don't think it's a requirement to have a captain. Better having leaders step up naturally than having it forced upon them. This season the Edmonton Oilers, New Jersey Devils (NHL) and Pittsburgh Steelers (NFL) decided not to appoint Captains. They just let their leaders lead. In the Oilers case, Andrew Ference had been a very good captain the previous 2 seasons, but was not installed as Captain this season. They decided to appoint 4 Alternate Captains (same as a Vice-Captain) instead.

I'm of the opinion Carlton should do the same. Who calls at the coin toss? Who cares! I'm satisfied with the on-field leaders we have. Jamison, Murphy, Simpson and some of the youngsters coming through in Cripps and Weitering will all play leadership roles.

I'm in!

Love the idea of no captain.

Less embarrassment possibilities and if we do get good and win the flag the post-siren bitchfight over who gets to raise the cup will be priceless!

Sounds like something Richmond could consider. Surely at least one out of those four or five would know which way the wind was blowing.
