Then there's gold partners, coterie groups, guernsey sponsors, etc.

Yes. There's definitely still a reasonably healthy 'others' list. It's not the best position we've been in sponsorship wise, but it's certainly not panic stations.

It'll be a certain income boost compared to 2015 figures.

Wouldn't surprise me to see another Level 2 or 3 sponsor on board prior to season proper.

The @CarltonFC says it will retain its sponsorship relationship with @AcquireLearning despite the @acccgovau taking the company to court

Lol, so potential sponsors air their dirty laundry in contract negotiations nowadays...speechless.

I reckon Agros list would love a jail term for AD for defrauding the government

Carlton chief bullish on new commercial strategy
21 December 2015 3:42pm

Carlton CEO Steven Trigg says the AFL team will "re-enter growth mode" from next year after a disappointing 2015 in which sponsorship revenue fell by $1.6m and the team finished bottom of the ladder.

Trigg said Carlton could no longer rely on wealthy benefactors, and since he joined the club in mid-2014, it had rebuilt its commercial department and overhauled its sponsorship strategy.

"We’ve made a lot of changes in the last twelve to eighteen months, we’ve reset our team and objectives, and there’s enormous growth potential there now," he said.

According to the Blues’ 2015 financial report, sponsorship revenue dropped 11.3% to $12.06 million. Total revenue fell 4.5% to $54.05m after commercial streams including membership (down 5.8% to $8.6m) and merchandise (down 48% to $1.03m) also fell after a poor on-field season.

The club posted a loss for the period of $946,000.

Trigg said a recent surge of new and renewed sponsorships had set Carlton up to move back into the black.

"It’s no secret that we’ve had a disappointing last few seasons. We’ve made real progress off-field with those new sponsors, and we’re now set up to deliver from a servicing perspective," he said.

In the last month, Chinese smartphone brand ZTE and Acquire Learning have both expanded their sponsorships, while CareerOne has been signed to replace outgoing co-major sponsor Mars.

While Visy last year pulled back from its naming rights deal with the club’s administrative base, it has also signed a two-year extension.

Visy's sponsorship of the club dropped from $1.04m in 2014 to $598k this year, a disclosure made due to Visy co-chair Jeanne Pratt serving on the Carlton board.

"The form of philanthropy that often gets associated with Carlton, where a wealthy family or benefactor might get you out of trouble – we need to move away from that. It’s not a sustainable model," he said.

Trigg said Carlton increased investment in its commercial operations, now led by former Momentum Energy managing director Nigel Clark , and pointed to its long-running Hyundai deal as an example of the club’s ability to generate ROI for sponsors.

He said last financial year Carlton members and fans purchased some 500 Hyundai vehicles, facilitated by two in-house Hyundai sales staffers in the club.

"Helping Hyundai sell cars is what it’s all about. We need to bring that value to all our partners," said Trigg.

Nigel Clark is a genius. A close relative of mine worked closely with him @ Momentum, which wasn't his first successful venture. Very happy he's on board with us.

Having just read The Age article and a very long thread on Whirlpool re: Acquire Learning, I'm more than a little concerned that we think it's ok to have them as a sponsor. Desperate times......

Used to love 'em. Don't eat pastries or sugar now so unfortunately, no to galaktobourekos, no to baklava, no to all that stuff.
