Pretty much this.

If we finish last or very near it, it will be more likely it's by design.

Picks 1 and 2 will land us two sublimly talented players and with that we'd just about be on our way up and out of the mess we're in.
Of course it would be by design , but we need it desperately.

We'll be winning a game. Bris/Ess/GC/etc ain't exactly going to skyrocket as a consequence of their offseason recruiting.

I know next year is a development year but FFS just don't finish last again!!!

No more #1 draft picks or wooden spoons.

Glen Luff from Champion Data has ranked Carlton's list as one of the worst he has seen in his 20 years of doing data. We are ranked 18th for players aged in the age bracket of 21-25 and 18th for players in the 25-29 age bracket. 17 players from other clubs adds up to 40% of the playing list which is more than 2004 when Pagan went on his recruiting spree.
We are going to be in the wilderness for the rest of this decade or unless the coaches can fast track the development of the young players. We are seriously going to be non-competitive in 2016.

Statistics, they can be used to paint any picture you want.

Did you know Cripps doesn't get rated in his analysis?

Are our players from other clubs young or old compared to other clubs?

How many first rounders do we have? I bet that paints a different picture?

Thanks. Was going to state similar.

Sweeping statement based on numbers not personnel.

It's a strong draft this year. But hey, we might get the number 1 pick anyway for not finishing last. As there's Essendon*.

I'd like the Gil McLaclan to look down the barrel of a camera at seasons end justifying how they can allow Essendon* to retain their first, second and third round draft picks after CAS convicts them for being the dirty flowering performance enhancing drug cheating scumbags that they are.

Surely not. It puts the game into disrepute. The outrage will be obvious everywhere.

I'm sure the AFL Good ole boys network will trott out the "they've already been punished", "the double jeopardy analogies" and "the haven't they suffered enough" defences/excuses.

For sure. But the media (except Mark [REDACTED] Robinson and a handful of others) will go into meltdown. It's the most disgraceful form of cheating I've seen (along with Lance Armstrong) and one of the most disgraceful acts of cheating in the history of sport. It will be worldwide news when they're found out. Their names will be tarnished for an indefinite period. In which case the AFL community will demand they be stripped of picks and premiership points for years. Watch this space.
