Our board cannot go to the rank and file because for too long their has been a "disconnect" ... Carlton people will tell you that they don't feel part of the club but instead feel like a consumer.

If the right group can come along and invigorate the club, provide hope and restore passion then this debt can be demolished through a concerted campaign ... if and when we do that then this club will launch as a power again ... the days of wealthy benefactors holding up clubs was gone long time ago.

I agree with most of this dada. The recovery should be driven by the membership and a quality board would do it.

The boards excuse of apathetic supporters is not only convenient , it's very likely their actions deliberately alienate the base .
In much the same way they didn't pay off the debt because that would weaken the grip on power.

In any other business if you blamed 'apathetic customers' you'd be laughed out of town. It's a shit excuse that means nothing.

They have to offer something - hope. Play attractive football, offer hope, play kids etc. Don't turn to a 60 year old has been and play guys who don't want to be there. It's all we've got. The rebuild was shit and has collapsed. Now it's rebuild for the future. Do it well and they'll get respect back and make some money.

On the plus side they really show something and an extra 10,000 tragics may just turn up as members!

The AFL will keep Carlton ticking along. Once you start talking without being prompted about 'not wanting to give up any control' to the AFL - it kinda means you already are giving up some control to the AFL. I just hope the administration are up front with the supporter base about just how much the AFL is doing.

Supporters/members I know are shocked Carlton have gone through the off season the way they have so far, uncarltonlike in every facet.

Those surveys have clearly had common themes from responses, I think there will be many people shocked at how the rank and file respond.

For starters, I think we'll make this years membership numbers easy next year. They see a direction and an acknowledgement from those in charge that medicine needs to be taken and do it properly this time.

We'll be putrid next year, that's the medicine....Better membership numbers next year will be the litmus.

By the way, membership is already rebounding. Jeannie didn't by the 5000 memberships she bought the year before, you told us they dried up the money. Still beat the year before, another 10000 and were on our own two feet.....

Tough year next year, but if the club continues in the same vein, inclusiveness, the fans will support because they know the winds of change are here!!

Jeannie always buys memberships. Even in the collo days.

They most didn't buy a many
But she pulled out of other things. Though she did manage a fundraiser to help the money situation somewhat.. Remember.. 2.5 million minimum is the loss.. And we will repeat that next year.
No the club is broken and it's crawling along the ground.

I have no problems with you heralding the intelligence of Bruce Mathieson. He's the real deal. Bit of a bogan, but he seriously gets it. Mark LoGiudice on the other hand you praise as if he's the next Laurie Kerr - which couldn't be more further from the truth. Mark's in the role because there's very few people who want to be in his shoes right now.

If indeed you are correct and the membership base grows and it looks as if Silvagni and co are getting it right - Mark's gone. He'll be hung out to dry. You can then praise Craig Mathieson.

Nah mate, they know they need the members and have done a wonderful job on that front this year.

Continue that and they will come, the members and supporters don't want the oligarchs, they despise them for the way they use the club as their own little play thing.

I've got an idea to reengage with the lapsed members, the ones that probably aren't getting the direct communication right now. Needs manpower though as there's a shit load of them. You in?

Ok. Ok. Ok.

Enough we all get the message - regardless of who is right or wrong on this - the common ground for us all is that we have real issues.

We all recognise Mlg may never be the long term solution. However, wheels are turning ie we wanted change and we have had a significant amount of it.

Of course we have a long slog ahead of us. So why not accept the changes for now and let things unfold.

I suspect I'll get clobbered for not appreciating the depth of our issues. Maybe.

However, anyone with a genuine interest in the club would be stupid not to offer the current personnel - on and off the field - a chance....and do so with their full support.
