Well that rules out Dog and Bear.

Well...Dog is a maybe. He might be behind the scenes. It's the anti-LoGiudice establishment. Tom Elliott, the Kerr family...if they're there - perhaps Peter Sinn mightn't be far away...

There'll have to be a name or two released in the next 24 hours. There'll be internal grappling because the names suggested to me are Pratt loyalists.

It's a seriously fun time to be a Carlton supporter. No one does in-house fighting better than us. I love it!

I would have been all for this 12 months ago, but I wonder what else the Judge and Trigg could have done.

For the first time there seems to be genuine acceptance of not only where the club is at, but what is required to recover. Sure, there's a lot of improvement we're still to see in operational areas, but in terms of the work and effort required, I don't think the club is shying away from that for the first time that I can recall.

They've appointed a young coach from the most successful program in modern football history. They have demonstrated an appetite for making hard calls on players for the long term betterment of the list and its potential for success. They have truly embraced the draft for the first time in the club's history, and for the first time I can recall, actually had a strategy for approaching trade week which I think they got 95% right (only Yarran's price could have been a fraction higher in my view). Getting 8 for Henderson is one of the great pieces of trade week maneuvering.

I can't see how any of this would have been possible under the previous regime(s).

I think the Judge and Trigg have earned the right to have time to see if the changes they have made and will continue to make will see the success we all want.

Everyone on here does want success for the club, don't they? Sometimes I wonder.

Yep....my thoughts precisely.

They've laid their balls on the line and at the same time changed the mindset in a concerted effort to do it properly.....

Never in the history of the club has there been a "process" to find a coach

Never in the history of the club has there been an acceptance that rebuilding is what needs to happen

Carlton of old would have bent over backwards in fear of having an offseason trade period like they have.

A light bulbs gone off, finally!!

Trigg has been a breath of fresh air, he bloody well gets it. Comes across as a straight out results man, you fail to put in a 100% effort then ur gone. And that's exactly how It should be. His engagement this year is from another planet it's so foreign to what I'm used to. Docs ideas around a customer experience (essentially that's what it is) director are sound, and following up on lapsed members directly via a phone call should be a no brainer, that requires manpower. I'd say ideas like this are what's tables at meetings at Raheen also, but the sensationalist stories are the ones that get the headlines. Heck, there's an army of Carlton tragics across the forums on the net, why don't we do something positive for the club and donate time to help make these calls to lapsed members.
Might even help build a better rapport, but most boards draw on the negativity of save Fev marches and loss of talented but lazy footballers than want to do something positive.

Gooch has clearly put in a plan, and accepted some pain in the short term.... Has not happened for as long as I've been following football. Hes done what no other president had the balls to do and reduced the numbers on the board, reducing the power of the factions in the process. Still think it should be 6-7 max but there's plenty of work to do, there is nowhere to hide.

Some of you need to understand that this won't affect Steven Trigg. He stays no matter what happens. It is widely acknowledged that he's doing a pretty good job as CEO.

See laughable, factions are losing their power. It's a power grab

Of sorts. What might be Pratt driven now is likely to expire in the near future.

Board numbers are decreasing, and the one new entrant to the board does not appear to be a carefully groomed addition to a particular faction (that I can see, anyway).

They also seem to be staying out of the way of Trigg & co and allowing hard calls to be made, knowing the short term pain which will result.

Again, I ask - what more could be done within the timeframe he has had as President, considering how vastly incompetent and insular the board has been for over a decade. I think the Judge has earned time. Yes, he has been on that board for some time, but he is doing something to change it. At least it appears that way, those more connected or knowledgeable may have a different view.

I think if you're crediting this change to Mark LoGiudice - you're barking up the wrong tree. Or did everyone like how he handled the Malthouse debacle?

I agree with everything Punter22 has said. MlG has hearned himself some more time, he's implemented lots of changes since he's taken over. If a rival ticket was to challenge, I'd want the AGM to be a forum at which that ticket can outline their vision, so we have a clear understanding of the direction both parties would like to go in.

Members will have that information prior to the AGM. If they don't - they may as well not bother.

What part of the "Malthouse debacle"?

I think the club and Malthouse spoke and had an agreement on timeframes for a decision on a new deal. LoGiudice stated that clearly in 2014 (For approx. Rd 15 of 2015, IIRC).

Malthouse then starting going off script in the PRESEASON, masking his insecurity behind laughable claims of concern for his assistants, then the players and so on. When all he cared about was himself.

The media knew exactly how to push Malthouse's buttons, and wound him up until he sacked himself.

I don't think LoGuidice (or Trigg, for that matter) was blameless, but considering how unstable and self absorbed Malthouse demonstrated himself to be in the situation, it's hard to see how any decision could have appeared to be smooth or orderly. Malthouse made that an impossibility. First time I have had any sympathy for MacGuire, it would have been equally difficult handling the Malthouse-Buckley transition.

Re: where credit for some positive structural change to the board lies: I'm happy to be enlightened if the credit should be apportioned elsewhere, but until then I'll hand it to the person in charge.

I should add. I don't know the Judge, never met him, likely never will.

He's not perfect, I'd like a more charismatic and cohesive communication style in his public comments/appearances. And maybe a naïve/ignorant view of mine, but I wonder if he has the right networks to drive the corporate side of things hard enough, especially when the club is at such a low ebb.

From an outside perspective however he seems to be doing a good job, that's all.

I agree 100%.

How would a rival ticket, however, come up with a credible plan that's significantly different than 'total rebuild', which the current board has already embraced?

If the CEO and senior management has been turned over and is executing the plan, what's the point? except of course, a power grab - as already stated.

Carlton supporters continue to amaze me. For years they let this board take this club to the depths of despair (on AND off-field) and then when the last possible alternative remains the only viable option available to them - they call them the best thing since sliced bread.

The dumb are getting dumber.

I don't equate "Deserves more time" with "best thing since sliced bread".

Seems a weird and long bow to draw.

Agree entirely ... he had his time with the list decisions, made unreasonable demands at the start of 2015 and was removed when it became clear he wasn't the man going forward. No expensive long term payouts and no search for a messiah. we've started a long list rebuild with a young, enthusiastic coach from the a premiership winning culture. It feels like we are on the right track ... our ultimate success will come with smart decisions on list management and recruitment.

For flowers sake - how much time are you willing to give them? It's laughable! It's not a different board.

Punter - I like you...and 'at the end of the day' - you're the only one between us who'll get a vote...so I'll remove myself from these discussions soon.
