They have known nothing but shiteness ...

Mine wasn't the one in Carlton gear. I wouldn't do that to her!

They can suffer with me ... all three of them ...

Sounds simple but they've lost a generation or two. My daughters Primary School had a 'dress in your footy gear' day and there was barely a Carlton jumper in sight. Across 60 Preps there was 1 Carlton fan.

Yep, the future looks bleak. My Son in Law and I are battling to keep my 7yo grandson loyal, keeps saying he wants to support Hawthorn. At his schools "dress in footy gear" day there were a few Carlton jumpers (vast number of Hawthorn) this in a traditionally strong Carlton area. He says his friends laugh at him for being a Carlton supporter. The 4yo loves Carlton, but then he's yet to contend with the peer pressure at school.

A make or break year coming up I fear.

Meh...break it down, talk positively it's not that difficult.

No bigger peer pressure than your old man!!!

It's all about the kids we have and will be getting via the draft.

You're all full of it, Richmond have won 2 finals in 33 years.

....and therein lies an opportunity. I've been advocating for 4 years the need to employ a Fan Engagement Executive. For that to be a senior position within the organisation with in-depth CRM knowledge for the purpose of data acquisition, community engagement and the creation of online interfaces. It's not something to hand to a grad and say 'there's your blank canvas - have fun'....this should be an executive position.

That's my idea of AFL assistance. Go to them with a plan, spell out the needs, don't give away too much control. Getting this position right and executing strategy is the first step. The AFL want Carlton to come out of their rut. I'd be very surprised if they didn't finance this position.

The AFL don't give a sh!t about our rut. In fact, keeping the bigger teams in mid table and still attracting reasonable crowds while the expansion clubs contend at the top via artificial means is the ethos that has been driving AFL House since the late 1990s.

Almost 1/3 of Lil' Miss Wojee II's grade 1 class nominated Carlton as their club when they made a class graph of footy club support. I'm assuming that was on the back of Carlton's clinic they held at the school when she was in Prep last year.

I'm sure some will switch but it illustrates that winning isn't the only way to attract supporters. Engagement and marketing.

The Bulldogs send a few boxes of footy cards to the local Primary Schools at the start of the season.

Hawthorn and Kangas saturate the Tassie primary schools.

I beg to differ. The Commission will assist us in our hour of need. If we draft Oliver I think everything's going to be ok.

They've lost a lot of ground, no doubt.

But the support will come out of the woodwork once we show them Carlton are worth following with gusto, instead of being embarrassed to say they support Carlton. I know that's the case with many of my mates kids.

My kids are different. They are loud and proud to be Carltonians, and have patience...and historical bragging rights which surprises most kids. There's something there to Crow about (not Trigg and Kerridge).

My kids play footy for Mark Maclure's original team Eastern Suburbs Bulldogs and in my 11 yo's team of 15 there's 5 Carlton kids...who do wear the jumper, Two with gusto, Two with some embarrassment/ disappointment, and one in the last few rounds started wearing a Swans jumper...and I don't stop stirring him about the Ducks.

#Win and they will Grin $

Love it Teaguey!!!!

Some parents just lose control.

At our local footy club which is chock full of Latte sipping Barristers, Bankers, Stock Brokers and Lawyers it is obvious to me who is in control of the spoilt brats...and I love hanging shit on them for it. I just tell my kids to look at those kids and what an embarrassment they are to their parents and vice versa...amd to not ever think about treating me (or, Carlton)with such disrespect.

Hi Ando, see my marked up comments above.

In conclusion: Time to Sook.

Reading one of Docs posts, got me thinking about doing something positive for the club just needs a lot of tragics on Carlton boards across the net....

My 6 year old boy is leaning towards the Hawks because his favourite cousin goes for them (only because his dad, a Kiwi, supports them as that's the first place he lived when he moved here).

Hopefully with the more family friendly draw next year I can take him to a few games and work on him (whilst distracting him from the onfield performance).

As for my 8 year old daughter, she said she likes the pies because her friend does. I've made threats of removal from our house much to my wife's chagrin.

When Agro Jr, and Ms Agro were growing up I had a lot of grief from my dear departed Father-in-Law who tried with all his might and guile to get them on the Dark Side (Scum  ). They had the track suits, beanies and he would get them to shout "Go Bombers" just to annoy me (which it did  ).

But at the end of the day if they went to the football it was me that took them and they weren't taken to Essendon* games every week that's for sure

Today they both barrack for Carlton, even though one of them has a professional involvement elsewhere  .

Nothing to fill in.

He was well looked after by his mates, in return for looking after them.
