sustained mediocrity on the field is a financial killer

this ain't simply about poor financial management

with four wooden spoons and continual poor performance on the field we have no chance of rectifying the ship without AFL assistance

I would hazard a guess that Hawthorn or Collingwood would also struggle financially if they had produced on the field what we have over the last 15 years

there are obviously other problems but let's hope this list rebuild is the start of our re-emergence

if all goes well hopefully our support base is still there and come out of the woodwork to make us stronger financially ala Richmond

Well if you read Eddie McGuire's autobiography you will notice that he mentions when Collingwood was in dire straits, went to the AFL for financial assistance (late 1990s I believe) and the AFL laughed at them. Saying they would give them $100,000 if they played an extra game in Sydney.

Fact is that the "big clubs" of Collingwood, Richmond & Carlton are treated with contempt by the AFL when they are vulnerable. Now that Collingwood is strong the AFL wouldn't dare taking them on, eg giving them great draws... when do they first play interstate? round 20? They are playing right into the hands of the NRL and the soccer people if they treat the "big clubs" with contempt.

Newsflash. Carlton aren't a big club. You're living in the past if you think this is the case.

Does this mean that despite EVERYTHING - fines, court cases, payouts similar on field performances... the bombers are still doing better than us?

We must be rubbish...

I agree. Carlton is no longer a big club. That is why I said "big club" in quotation marks...to quote what people in the media state.

They would be a big club with an equal playing field though. Carlton could be even bigger than Collingwood if they were able to win again on a regular basis. Pot of gold...it is there for the AFL if the Blues became a power. Alas, funnelling money into North etc is more important though for "equalisation" purposes.

As for the CareerOne thing, while the logo looks a bit tacky on the jumper, I like the idea of the club associating with a national recruiter that could expose the club to lots of young'uns.

Serious question - do people still use CareerOne?

It's why they're advertising on a footy jumper is it not?

2nd most used employment site on the net miles ahead of 3rd place.......just triple those miles to first place seek

It's how the Internet rolls in most sectors, one site killing it, another making ends meet and the rest fighting for the dregs.

Except media and porn sites that is!!!!

I'm not sure that's correct Teagueyubeauty. I reckon that LinkedIn would be ahead of it and probably by a fair bit.

You may be right, but it was only a couple of years ago when News Corp had a big stake and I was privy to the market research which showed a massive difference from 1st to 2nd and 3rd.

No different in real estate or car sales or just about anything except media and porn

I don't get the consternation here. We've been shit for a while and have been in poor financial health for a decade plus. We all knew / saw that the Board weren't able to, or wanted to, get us out o this.

Now the worst resurgence in modern history has collapsed and the numbers are still bad.

So what do we do about it? work harder with the new leadership? Failing support from generous benefactors there really isn't any other option.

sooking never helped my kids and it won't help me.

The Judge / Trigg / Bolton? That qualifies for me.

What else do we do? Sook? Agitate? Withdraw funds? Barrack for St Kilda?
