The financial performance and debt position may improve or possibly remain the same, this will probably shift in different directions but improve somewhat if the club can implement some sound financial practices.

My concern is that with our membership base unable to grow beyond the 50K mark and given our sub-standard on-field performances since early 2000's, we may have lost a large chunk of an entire generation of supporters that will stunt our growth moving forward.

I hope we will heed the lessons and return to long term success but if don't start getting it right real soon, our position will only continue to deteriorate and I worry about our long term viability

Lucky we had those billionaires to show us how to run a business.

Unsurprising but its not pretty. There's no spinning how dire it is.

Trigg talks about the 'reset at Carlton' and not dwelling on the past. I want to believe, I want to have faith but I find it hard not to think this is just so those that should be, aren't held accountable for running the club in to the ground.

How some of the Board and key personnel that have presided over recent times can look themselves in the mirror is beyond me. I'd be utterly embarrassed and ashamed.

That better be redesigned in a real hurry.

Otherwise, lack of merchandise (jumper) sales will lead to another $2 000 000 loss.

Seriously, they can't be serious about that jumper design.

Can they?

This is excellent news. It seems they're finally past the denial phase. Perhaps now they will consider selling the lease to the AFL.

One of the first rules of the colour palette is that "Blue and Green should never be seen unless there is another colour in between".

What if there is another colour at the end?

Not may have...HAVE. Lost a chunk of older generation supporters too. Trigg is correct with the 'reset' mantra.

Trigg told the group the club needed help to reduce its debt "or we will have to hand the keys over to the AFL".

I thought they already had handed over the keys? The sheer fact there is silent compliance with the equalisation tax, stadium deals, with various pro-Hawthorn/pro-North/Collingwood moves (eg Hawthorn paying only $100,000 more to equalisation despite obtaining 5 million profits year after years) means they have already handed over the keys.

Every day I thank God Carlton has some money to contribute to the AFL's equalisation plans whilst paying off its multi -million dollar debt at the same time. It makes complete sense to me. The team on the bottom of the ladder is funnelling money into other clubs. I get it.

Oh sorry, this situation is all of Carlton's own making. Carlton is 100% to blame for the predicament they are in. I forgot the group-think on this topic.

The keys have already been handed over, and the more Carlton is in debt the more reliant they become.
This should give you a clue at what Carlton is thought of at AFL HQ.

'Handing over the keys' would be akin to what North did some years ago. See this from 2012.

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=18752&p=1235551&hilit=North+Melbourne#p1235551

You're essentially not in control of your business and strategic plan. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing...it's when the AFL leave you to run their model when they walk away that you're potentially in dire straits. For North - that begins pretty soon.

That example is more about the realities of where the club is at. There might be 16 trophies in the cabinet - and that's something to be historically proud of, but Carlton is not a successful club. They don't deserve to be handed things just because they used to be successful. It's a bit like respect. It has to be earned.
