She'd have easily won an election, if one was actually held for members..

She sits for whatever was left of Lee's term then has to be re-elected, as per the constitution.

Pretty sure that wasn't part of any of the recent amendments

Some talk inside one of the big banks, ANZ, that Mark Whelan (sort of 4th in command) has been sounded out as well. He has a massive role already but thought it interesting.

1. lets wait for the official announcement but if true did she go though the independent nominations committee?
2. even if she did, we need other skills on the board to stop us from winning our 5th wooden spoon in 14 years next year

Tell me if I'm wrong but it doesn't strike me as a factional appointment....

From il presidente

Dear ,

I write to you this evening to inform you that Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner Kate Jenkins has joined the Carlton Football Club Board of Directors.

Kate has 20 years experience as a lawyer and is the convener of the Victorian Male Champions of Change, a group aimed at advancing gender equality, which includes AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan and Carlton Board members Luke Sayers and Ahmed Fahour.

Among her other roles, Kate is also the Chair of the Independent Review of Victoria Police into sexual harassment and sex discrimination, the Co-Chair of Play by the Rules, on the Board of Heide Museum of Modern Art and Vice President of the Board of Berry Street Victoria – the state's largest independent child and family welfare organisation.

Kate’s appointment took effect at tonight’s Board meeting and I believe her extensive experience in the areas of equal opportunity and diversity will be a terrific asset for our football club.

Also at tonight’s meeting long-serving Board member Greg Lee has retired as a director. Greg, a Carlton Life Member, has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to raise funds for Carlton and has been part of the Club’s Football Subcommittee and the Nominations and Remuneration Subcommittee.

Greg is a passionate Carlton man who has been an outstanding servant as a member, sponsor and director. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to him for his time, commitment and dedication over the journey.

The changes are a necessary step in our strategy of reshaping and reinvigorating the Carlton Board.

A proposal to reduce the Board from 10 directors to eight will be voted on at the December annual general meeting, which I can confirm will be held on Tuesday 22 December at Ikon Park. It follows last month’s announcement that Raphael Geminder and Ahmed Fahour would be retiring from their positions.

As always, I thank you for your ongoing support of Carlton as we continue on this journey together.

Regards,

Mark LoGiudice

1. Everybody has to go through the INC.
2. Lawyer, HR and EO experience who also has ties to the Arts and thus to the entertainment industry. She sounds well connected, and it seems to be on the back of hard work.

Not sure how much more you can want from one board member, especially seeing she seems to be able to bring the bulk of the expertise of three existing board members, one of whom just retired.

I agree wholeheartedly, I assume though she will be elected by the members, or not, at this years AGM?

the presidents statement makes no mention of the INC...appears to be a swap for Lee like the good old days...

She inherits Lee's term, and terms are determined by the longest serving third of the board being put up for re-election at the AGM (I'm starting to wish I didn't flick through the constitution this afternoon).

Lee might be involved in that third (i.e. 3 or 4 board members currently), in which case she would immediately stand for re-election, otherwise it would likely be at the 2016 AGM.

I hope even if she doesn't have to that she puts herself up, I don't think she'd have any problems being elected but it helps to bring transparency to the appointment

As you can see from the mosquito above there's still a bit of work to do but on reflection she brings some skills to the board that don't appear to be in abundance, Human Resources being one such area especially with the way the club is heading with coaches being on staff and just about every senior position being filled by someone new. Let alone the clear staff engagement issues clearly present in the last 12-24 months.....there's no shortage of work to do in this area!!!

Imagine how many extra games Houla would have played if Kate had have been on the bard back then.
