Brodie Martin is a worthy late pick.. 26, neat kick and tackles hard. I like him....

Yep. We're going to trade all our picks away for GWS players. Damn Mark Fine is always one step ahead.

I think the point is if we're taking 8 off the list we should be drafting 8 players rather than trading for 5 and drafting the minimum 3.

This year may not be a good example with a weak draft, but how often have we had more than 4 draftees turn up at the club?

Weltering, Rice, Silvagni and a handful of Giants. It would be nice to take a chance on a few more unknowns.

I'd be happy for a 5/3 split between draftees and players recruited from other clubs. If the club is planning to go silly with former GWS players and have only the bare minimum of players picked through the draft then that seems like odd list management, especially for a club that is supposed to be rebuilding. No quick fixes - indeed. I can't even see Tomlinson dominating in his position unless we can somehow turn him into another giant midfielder. He's not the KPF we need so I don't why we'd be cutting our whole draft in half to get him.

I was listening to Mark Fine this evening and a caller rang in about Carlton and its intentions to get in some GWS players.
He made a good point in that Carlton does not embrace the draft and has a history of only using the bare minimum of picks in the national draft.
He said that there has to be other players out there other than a few GWS players and there are 16 other AFL clubs and clubs all around the country that we could look at players from.
In the last 4 drafts we have taken 13 players, the minimum was 12.
Two of those were older players in Rowe and Boekhorst.
He said that we need to take a chance on kids who have not been given the chance yet and these GWS players are taking up a valuable spot on our list.

Bloody oaf! They want the AFL to help us with our rebuild (rightly, when appropriate) but we are not prepared to help ourselves.

Agree but this one draft where trading 2nd round picks makes sense. Its a flankers draft beyond the top 20

The same thing we say every year - '"it's a weak draft".

They aren't there for us because we don't do the hard work.

So here is my final phantom off-season predictions, based solely on nothing but rumours :-)

List Changes:

Retired - Judd, Carrazzo, Allard
Delisted - Armfield, Warnock, White, Watson, Giles
Trade (Out) - Yarran (Pick 12 from Richmond), Bell & Casboult (Pick 21 from Brisbane), Henderson (First Round pick 2016 from Geelong)

List Add-Ons:

Trade (In): Plowman, Phillips & Lamb (Bell pick to GWS), Adam Tomlinson (Henderson pick to GWS)
Draft: Jacob Weitering (Pick 1), Sam Weideman (Pick 12), Jade Gresham (Pick 20), Bailey Rice (Pick 38), Daniel Rioli (Pick 56), SOS (Pick 74), Ciaran Byrne (Pick 92)
PSD: Not sure, lets just say Josh Walker.

That's 12 gone and 12 in. Massive change, but a considerable improvement to the TPP and youth profile of the team. Not a lot of tried depth, which is good for developing kids, instead of list cloggers IMO.

B: Tuohy, Jamison, Plowman
HB: Docherty, Weitering, Simpson
C: Boekhurst, Cripps, Curnow
HF: Graham, Tomlinson, Everitt
F: 1AW, Walker, Thomas
RCK: Kreuzer, Gibbs, Murphy
INT: Phillips, Buckley, Lamb, KJ

YOUTH: Gresham, Smith, Rainbow, SOS, Rice, Weideman, Rioli, Holman, Foster, Dick, Byrne, Gowers, Walsh, 4 x Rookie Selections

Can you imagine next year when Weitering, Kreuzer, Murphy and Gibbs link up in a chain of possessions while Bruce is commentating?

SOS at trade meeting - first priority -Hendo deal - requires first round pick for yarran -otherwise he is contracted - there is interest in Casboult but already lost hendo a forward so not ideal - plowman and Phillips confirmed interest - non committal on Tomlinson

If we get any 1st rounders we need to keep them. Ideal situation would be to have 2 first round picks this year and next. I would rather keep these then trade for GWS players. Only get GWS players with second rounders on wards.

Blues open to offers for contracted key forward Levi Casboult
Carlton list manager Stephen Silvagni has confirmed interest from several clubs in strong marking forward Levi Casboult, who is under contract.
"At the minute we've got Lachie Henderson looking to get to Geelong so to lose another forward, it wouldn't be ideal. We are happy to discuss, but we'll just see what happens," he said.
Silvagni reiterated the club's desire for an "early pick" in return for rebounding half-back Chris Yarran.
"If we can't get that done then obviously he still has a year left on his contract," he said.

saw of a bit of that rioli kid when i was in the NT last, and given his combine results ... he's the betts-prototype small forward we're screaming for. i'd def burn a pick for him, maybe a mid 2nd rounder – if we get that back for some of the outgoing deals (bell?).

hope we don't replace cas with josh walker just for the sake of it. that's a shuffling-the-deck-chairs-move if i've ever seen it.

Talk of us chasing another quality ruck, tells me the whole kruezer situation of he won't play a full season at 100% ever again with his foot & knee, might be accurate?

So ... weitering & silvagni are our givens in the draft so far. we need what, as many mids as possible, another key forward and at least one small forward?

McKay says the Blues will be active again this year if the right deals can be agreed on.

“Our general philosophy is if we are going to trade any of our players we need something better in return,” McKay said.

“That benefit might not come with that direct swap, but what we might set up is a third party coming in to use our swap to benefit us.”

As it stands Carlton holds the number one draft pick, along with the first selection in each round of the draft. That includes picks 1, 20, 38, 56, 74, 92 and 110. Some of those selections may change through the allocation of compensation picks, while the Blues could gain additional selections through the trade.

Reading into this - the picks we get for players might not scream 'winning' initially - once we on trade them for GWS kids, or Anderson etc we will look ahead in the deal.

If we cant get a pick inside 20 then its a disgrace re Yarran, super talent and will be dynamic in a better side.

Need to hold firm and make him stay if we don't get the deal we want.

Listening to McKay interview we are adopting the Hawthorn model in terms of players we are after; Good kicks, good decision makers.
It sounds pretty basic but if you look at our list we have a few holes to fill.
