Generally that's how it works when you finish stone motherless last.

We're not going to go anywhere if we keep trading our good players away. If ever there was a weekend that said that we messed it up with Kennedy, Betts and Waite it was this weekend. I don't care what reason you give for the trade. The point is that we should have had an environment where the players never wanted to leave. We should never have traded any of them. Quite simply you win games when you score more than the opposition. No wonder we are on the bottom if all of our best scorers are at other clubs.

I always maintained the "Judd trade" was good for the club.
I've actually changed my mind. I loved Juddy, and he played some amazing footy for us, but we lost that trade.
8 years on we're still nowhere.... and the Eagles still have 5 years left in both Kennedy and Masten.
It hurts

Kennedy was already being crucified by pagan. We'd have drafted no one with the masten pick. It was a trade that worked well for both parties, and West coast developed the players they got brilliantly.

But how exactly has it worked out for us?
Coz Juddy bought a salad that day?

Well they developed two of them. The other one not so much.

If Judd never came to this club things would be much worse than they already are. Just let that thought sink in...

I've always been of that belief.... but im now stuck trying to see how much worse it could be?

We folded? Have a look at where we are. leadership didn't improve under him. He gave us joy, but how much better a position are we in now, than before he came.

none i'd say.

Notwithstanding a horrific year and watching Kennedy, I still disagree. I blame our inept support recruiting, lack of support coaching to Ratten (who clearly had limitations) and the loss of players on the way through for this.

We took a punt, a massive punt, and effed it completely.

The real error was not doing the direct Fevola for Judd trade which WCE offered (before 2007).

Long time ago but I'm confident that's not what West Coke Eagles wanted, they had enough head cases already

In the end though, if we had kept all of those players would we have won a premiership?

Yes he also kept Kennedy out of the side

Club has fallen over itself to stuff things up in the last 15-20 years
I think it started in the 1999 draft and trade period and has progressively gotten worse

We didnt trade Betts and Waite.
If anything it highlights how we got ripped off with the non Waite compo. Frawley pick 3, Waite a big fat zero.

Carlton failed to manage, maintain star players, Blues great Mark Maclure says

Quote:
CARLTON premiership great Mark Maclure says the Blues would have made the eight this year with Eddie Betts, Jarrad Waite and Jeff Garlett running riot in the forward line.

Instead, Waite and Betts starred in weekend finals wins for Adelaide and North Melbourne, while another discarded Blue, midfielder Mitch Robinson, claimed the Brisbane Lions best and fairest in a four-way tie.

Former Blues Josh Kennedy (West Coast), Sam Jacobs (Adelaide), Jeremy Laidler (Sydney) and Shaun Grigg (Richmond) also featured in finals action.

Betts has kicked 63 goals this season and Waite 39.

Garlett, traded to Melbourne for picks 61 and 79 last year, booted 40 goals in his debut Demons season.

“Carlton could have made the eight this year if they had maintained and managed those players,” Maclure told the Herald Sun.

“The evidence is clear enough. They have ended up with no forward line whatsoever. Someone was in charge of the wheel, but they will never put their hand up.

“Seriously, it’s hurt the football club.

“You’ve got to score — the only pressure you can put on is when you put scoreboard pressure on.

“They had a dangerous forward line — Betts, Garlett, (Chris) Yarran, (Andrew) Walker and Waite. The forward line was there but someone had a different philosophy.

“It’s a disaster really.”
