Quote:
When asked whether he would stay beyond the remaining two rounds, Barker simply said “what happens in the future will take care of itself”.

“Carlton’s really handed me a great opportunity. It’s been invaluable experience,” he said.

“I think I’ve grown as a coach through that period and I’ve enjoyed every minute of the last 12 weeks.

“The process was exhaustive and it was a really good one. I felt like I gave myself every opportunity (to get the job).

“What I’ll say is that Carlton is in really good hands going forward. There’s no doubt about that. I’ve worked with Brendon at Hawthorn and he’s a really good coach.

“They have (spoken to me about staying on) but the future will take care of itself in due course.”

As for whether he would consider putting his hand up for another vacant coaching role such as that at Essendon***, he was similarly noncommittal.

“What happens in the future will take care of itself,” Barker said.

“What I know is that I’m going to work really hard on growing as a coach but also work just as hard to keep growing as a person.

“Right now I’ve got two weeks to coach and I’m looking forward to getting that done.”

Sounds like he's gone to me.

Seriously, if saying that “What happens in the future will take care of itself,” is the kind of scripted, predictable, tripe that he was stating in interviews then he was never going to get the job.

Don't get me wrong, he seems personable enough etc but he is limited and just talks the footy language.

If I let the future take care of itself I would never be in the successful position I am today. I would not be advocating that to my kids and I would hope the coach would not advocating that to the players.

You have to make things happen and shape your future.

For mine he is just being diplomatic

Can't say I knew a whole lot about Barker before he took over other than being fully aware of the widespread thought of him being a lightweight.

Must say the way he handled and conducted himself, the standards he set and his communication was impressive imho. Completely opposite to the perception.

Sounds like he's gone but it would be great to retain him.

Thanks Barks, top effort from a guy that 99% of us didnt think had the brains or balls to be an AFL coach.
A lot of people have change their opinion , including me, and I wish him nothing but the best in what comes next

Hardly the same. One was an established coach who was almost certainly guaranteed support and the time to achieve results and was given a three year contract, who was sacked before his contract was up, against guarantees given to him by our dysfunctional board. He had reason to be upset. And some of his "beefs" are hard to argue with.
The other was a rookie coach who had every reason to feel grateful for being given the opportunity to show his ability. He hasnt put a foot wrong and has certainly elevated his reputation during his brief tenure. He has gone from being an also ran to a rated coach, who will almost certainly be given a chance to coach a senior AFL team over the coming years.

The more I think about it the more I want the FD and playing list blown up and reconstructed from the ground up.
Seeya Barks, welcome aboard BB now clean out the playing list and cash in as much as you can.
