Hope he doesn't deliver us a wooden spoon.

And yet still up on the ASX200 and SP500 over the last six months.

Will it influence Bolton's coaching?

Good Luck.

He will taste coaching pressure for the first time ever in this position.

4. Put the players first
Carlton has always puffed its chest out and had a 'play for the jumper' mentality. That old-school approach does not suit the modern workplace that puts player wellbeing high on the agenda. AFL.com.au understands the departure of highly regarded former player and wellbeing manager Lyndall Down had a significant impact on the morale of the players and it is an area that needs strengthening. Bolton appears a relationship builder and he is young enough to relate to many of the players and listen to their concerns. He also knows what good player-driven clubs look like, having been at the Hawks. The Blues are riding tough financial times so every wish of the coach won't be met immediately but he must feel that he is getting all the support he needs to do his job.

First order of business for the new coach...... put pressure on the club management to get the AFL to provide priority draft picks, proper compensation for players they are about to lose etc, and or money to wipe out the debt.....

eg Waite last year - no compensation. Is this just seeing as Waite is now a key plank in the AFL sponsored and funded North Melbourne ?

North is AFL funded to an extra $3 million per year. Carlton should get the equivalent amount per year now.

This "no compensation" (eg Waite) cannot play out again this year if Carlton loses Kreuzer etc. The AFL will need to step in and make some favourable decisions towards Carlton.

I wasn't able to listen in to the presser in great detail, but look forward to catching up on it tonight. I did hear enough to know "leadership density" is the new black!

Rapted that he's going to be starting so soon. Well done to Blues and Hawks for agreeing to that.

I was new at a job & missed the last days of TBV. One of my major life regrets

The best thing about him not being on a fixed term contract is that both Bolton and the club can avoid some of the media's usual scrutiny around renewal/sacking time.

This way when the club says the coach is the coach and that he has the backing of the board they're absolutely correct unless they've just sacked him.

There's none of the "why haven't the club renewed his contract?" crap.

This. There will be pay out clauses etc. but nothing public. Its all about avoiding the media circus.

This is probably the best of the articles out there on Bolton.

Re: him not playing AFL football before - could be taken as a positive if you use Bill Belichick in the NFL as an example.
or could be taken as a negative if you use Wayne Brittain as an example.

He was miserable on 360 as well.

Asking Goddard about how he felt about Hird now a week has passed... was hilarious. 'Do you miss him, do you really really miss him, because I miss him so so much' Was the vibe.
