Have heard Barker would maybe stay on as assistant coach if Bolton got the job.

Not sure that's a good thing, would highlight both their characters if it worked out though.

Been super impressed with Barker, northern Blues coach would be a good get

I would also look at Barker as the Northern Blues coach so he can continue coaching in his own right.

Not sure Barker would do that. Head coach at VFL level is a downgrade from assistant coach at AFL level.

Like ... why would a Demons player put on a rank two handed trip 15 metres out from the Blues goal? That's a certain goal, everytime. That sort of thing?...

Happy with the Bolton appointment. Not a pensioned off coach. Not from inside the club.

Hadn't thought of that question but really he's getting off easy.

I am happy that we have finally had a serious process and i really hope we have got it right. If it is Bolton then i hope he is terrific. My only concerns are that he doesn't project the authority that really great coaches have. Lyon and Clarkson can be ordinary blokes but they have a steely belief that suggests few players are going to ignore their authority.

It will be a real challenge for Bolton. When he is interviewed he always comes across like a wide eyed boy.

He will need huge amounts of resilience and authority with a bottom side, a long rebuild and an impatient supporter base. I really hope we have got it right.

This is where a young coach is exciting: the chance to grow into the job, and the youth to have longevity once established.

That would be a great outcome. The more I think about how undermanned we were yesterday and how he got them up for it says to me he has the respect of the players. It would be great continuity and be some consolation in a turbulent year

Caro: Bolton called by board tonight and offered job. At least a 3 year deal. Barker offered a role to stay on.

Neil Craig still in the picture.

Barker wouldn't get a job anywhere else, so if we want to keep him on he will stay.

It's definitely heartening that CFC has apparently gone through a thorough and grueling process to find the best fit for the job.

Seems like a bunch of the players have had enough and I can't say I blame them. I hope it's not too many.

Having worked for some badly mismanaged organisations, it is very hard to stay engaged and giving 100% no matter how professional you are.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. If he is head coach of the Bullants, he can also manage player development, improve our depth and get the reserves playing the same game plan as the seniors. These are very important cogs in the wheel. Plus, I don't think it's a downgrade from what Brad Green is dishing out these days.

Did Bolton and Barker cross paths at Hawthorn or were they a few years apart?

I'd be more than happy for Barker to stay at the club in some capacity (if Bolton is happy to have him there), however I'd understand if he'd prefer to go elsewhere.

Whatever my thoughts on him previously (which weren't complimentary), I don't think there's any doubt that the experience of taking over the team will make him an even greater asset. If he could be on the same page as Bolton it could make for a very solid partnership.
