Everyone acknowledges that carlton are about to embark on their most crucial drafting period in its history.

It is becoming clear that the club will stockpile top draft picks and mortgage its future on the 2015 national draft.

With that being the case, can I ask one critical question, who is responsible for selecting our draft picks?

I understand that SOS has been enlisted to oversee the list build but he isn't a recruiter.

It's a bit like getting an anaesthetist to put the patient to sleep and undertake the heart transplant himself!

To be honest, it wouldn't be to difficult to receive reports from our scout network, attend the U18 games, attend the championships and select 4 top 25 players and two father sons.

If you told me we had no scouts at all I'd be more concerned.

The three key assistants are sharing the job between them, with SOS coordinating with them and his own network of scouts. We've got plenty of resources, and supposedly have a recruiting manager lined up for next season.

I asked the same question of someone with good knowledge of the club the other day. He tells me SOS is calling out the names at the draft.

I think we are getting one of the GWS recruiting staff who SOS worked with.

And? It's a team effort, and there's only one official title missing, meanwhile we seem to be having the bulk of two scouting networks working for us.

The recruiting manager is a position not required. Just read here and Big Footy. Save the $$$
