I'm bewildered by those who are prepared to forgoe who looks like a clear no.1 just because they can't handle the "stigma" attached with "winning" the spoon.
Who flower cares!!!
I wan't the best available talent at our club.
Sure I want to win games, but if we finish last and have pick 1, well I won't be loosing any sleep.

As long as we're not winning the spoon in a year where the number 1 pick isn't a clear standout like last year

This year Weitering is head and shoulders above
Leppa said after Weitering spent a week @ brisbane during preseason that he could've played Rd 1

If there is a standout no 1 - I want him in navy blue for the next 12-15 years.
Unfortunately I think the Suns will get the spoon - their injury list is horrendous.

Think the rest of our season will be like late last year. Means, if that's the case, we'll win a few, pass a few in the process.

Bit like 1998 when we were on the bottom near mid season and getting pumped. We finished with a rush. We're not that and with a coach we'll play for we'll do alot better.

Because it worked out well previously...

Win, win, win... Let's try it this time.

..if club wants the spoon, it may need to tank.... ..luckily, plenty of sore players to 'rest' during the season..

....i'd rather we work hard to try and make some good playing habits stick.... ..and work further to weed out those that can't, or won't, play with consistently hard effort.. ..play to win, sign up the core players to build the next crop around..

Lions

Adelaide in Adelaide = 60+ points
Hawks in Tasmania = 60+ points
Bulldogs in Melbourne = 60+ points

Us

Melbourne in Melbourne = Shouldn't be much in it say 15 points
GWS in Sydney = Shouldn't be much in it say 15 points
Hawthorn in Melbourne = 60+ points - they might rest up and take it easy on us?

That is a legitimate concern.

However:

GWS did thrash us earlier in the year when we had a stronger side in.

Hawthorn could be going half rat power and still beat us by 100 points. They may well be playing for a top 2 spot.

Cripps and the skipper will need a rest soon.

I apologise. Bulldogs at the G for Brisbane. Makes it a bit better for them.

Hopefully Dogs take a half strength team to the Gabba in Round 23 to rest up for finals.

Looks a distinct possibility now.

The first one shattered me.
This one is necessary.

It has nothing to do with finishing bottom of the ladder to me. It is a symbol of the total ineptitude of the club over the last 20 odd years. It should go in the trophy cabinet as a reminder to future generations of the day we decided to get real.
