It's not just the coach but the whole place. Surely the new coach needs to be supported by great assistants, great development staff, recruiting & medical.

We need the best in recruiting and list management. We need a new board.

Good clubs don't collapse like we did last night unless there are major internal issues throughout the entire club. It happens to often.

The new coach and new football staff need clear air, a fresh start. We can't keep anything associated with the past decade as it is cancerous.

We effectively need to look at it as starting a new club. Modern, positive and driven culture with a winning attitude. Second best should not be tolerated.

Like GWS for example? SOS was their list manager so should be experienced in that regard.....omly problem is he doesn't have a swag of 1st round picks!!

Not comfortable with the fact SOS traded away young kids for older players while at GWS. Like Boyd for Griffen. Shaw for Adams.

So we will see I guess..

Different set of circumstances. They needed experience.

Carlton could soon name Brendan Bolton its new coach with release from Hawthorn

HAWTHORN is prepared to immediately release senior assistant Brendan Bolton if he is awarded Carlton’s senior position this week.

Bolton has conducted a pair of impressive interviews at Carlton, with its coach sub committee set to present a recommendation to the Blues board.

He is believed to be in an extremely strong position to win the senior role, as the club considers a clean slate despite interim coach John Barker’s strong credentials.

You'd have to wonder if their willingness to immediately release him might be (understandably) impacted by the Ratten situation.

Pretty sure the criticism of GWS in the beginning was that they didn't trade enough picks for older talent like GC did.

Shaw was 2013 (end of year 2) & Mumford.
Griffen was 2014 (end of year 3).

Makes sense that he would leave Hawthorn immediately. There are big decisions to made at Carlton so it would be impossible for him to do both.
Feel for Hawthorn, the Ratten situation must be hard enough for them to deal with.

I'm happy for Bolton but feel a bit sorry for Barks .

Seems a entirely decent guy.

Indeed he does.

I reckon he's surprised a fair few of us, if not with his coaching ability, at least with his demeanour and communication skills.

If Bolts gets the job, I'm keen to see what happens with Barker. If he impressed internally as much as it is said, I'd hope he stays on in some capacity but he is out of contract and may feel like he's been snubbed.

You reckon there's a way we can still keep Barks (if he wants to stay)
I'd love to see him as the coach of the Northern Blues

I don't know. I think you'd have to be very close to the action to give an opinion.

In a perfect world he stays as part of a successful rebuild and get's a senior gig somewhere else.

As nice a story as that would be, it might be better for all concerned if he moved on. Who knows?

Nah, it's all bollocks....this is Carlton, Longmire it is you fools.

Why the flower would Carlton plonk for a rookie coach when there's a youngish premiership coach prostituting himself with the aim of getting to the retirement cheque club?

I'm definitely open to Bolton coaching us.
With Ratts haveing to have some time off, we can give 2-3 weeks before he comes but not the end of Hawks season.
