Ellard a farewell game. Surely we have another kid we could give a go?

I do not believe the AFL will give Brissie picks 1 and 2. Yes, they're shifty. Yes, they love sticking it to us. Yes, they favor teams in "developing markets". But nonetheless they surely would want to see more people turn up to the games we play against the bigger Melbourne clubs; attendances there have been embarrassing. If they rob us of the opportunity to draft the KP player we so desperately need, it would go a long way towards killing the second oldest (behind Melbourne, marginally) and most successful club in the comp. And they know it.

As an aside, I actually think the Essendon*** saga will have a hand in softening the AFL's approach to us. They know they can't save Essendon*** from a prolonged period of crap, but they can and will take steps to ensure we are able to rebuild. The AFL needs at least one of us to be competitive.

This may be true but we won't know what is happening to Essendon** until after the GF and maybe not until the end of the year.
Your basic premise about the AFL needing at least one and preferably both of us firing s correct. When both are even moderately competitive we are a cash cow for them.

...and they're about to renegotiate the TV deal...where all their money (including the increased expenditure ) comes from.

Watched him last week. Not even close. I'm all for playing the kids but he would be a dead weight. It's bad enough with BB & Smith who can't run out games.

Wasn't a massive wrap for Ellard coming back but then thought... he's been a great clubman, a great servant and a leader who leaves nothing on the park everytime he plays.

He's not the future but it says something for the culture of the club and for morale that we show him some gratitude and give him a chance for a farewell win.

On reflection, I like the selection.

Cheers. Must get to more VFL games . ironically first curtain raiser in years and couldn't make either game...mind you, missed having a pie more than anything

He could play 40 minutes of football, i.e. be the sub.

He's not been rested at all this year in the VFL, he simply missed 3 weeks with a calf complaint.

Then there's also Watson, Menzel, Johnson and Walsh in terms of players who could gain something out of a start and not shit the bed with their efforts.

Walsh is the best of those and I'd like to see him play. The rest are shite. With BB and Smith in the side we don't have much flexibility.

Runnng thin on players able to play at AFL level.
Yazz and Menz didn't do enough for the 2s last weekend to warrant a recall to the seniors.
If the side is actually interested in winning, the next two weeks are pretty winnable if we can get our sh*t together.

He has trouble finding the ball over 100 minutes in the VFL how is 40 minutes at AFL level going to be better? I'm all for playing the kids but they need to show something before getting a game.

Over the past couple of weeks Jaksch & Dick have probably been the bets of them.

Finally KJ gets a game. Feel sorry for Watson, wdn't mind if he git another game, he has tried hard in twos. This is an ordinary side and i suspect the lions will beat us

You're giving Carlton too much credit. Even with their best side in they would still struggle.

He runs out of steam; he'd be fine as a sub playing off HF.
