Didn't it all start going to pot once Parkin was appointed 'Director of Coaching'.... just confused everybody, especially Wayne Brittain.

Tell you what, it's going to be a race to see who can be the first to start the SAKC {insert new coach} thread.

I'll probably cop it for this but given that we have 2 very well credentialed (at least before they came to us) Multiple Premiership coaches on the list do we think that the club, it's administration, recruiting and football department as a whole may be a bigger issues that of the coach?

Just a thought and possibly something we should consider moving forward.

Oh yeah, nobody ever mentions the board do they.

It's a good point though, because the board has signed those three coaches and not one of them had to apply for the job, we just went to them with an open cheque book (Ratten aside). And without a good and stable board/admin then it's very hard for any coach to succeed.

Yes, the board has its share of blame too, that's a given.

I actually believe it's a bigger issue than the coach and by a long way. At the moment we are a death sentence for any coach. If you truly believed in your abilities and want a successful career you wouldn't come to Carlton. Fortunately there are only 18 positions available and most are desperate for a chance.

Malthouse went to the board said the list was poor. So what do we do? go and get Jones, Tutt & Dick from other other clubs and tie up our salary cap. Yet no one is held responsible.

I still worry that most of the people involved in some of the disgraceful decisions over the past decade are still at the club. If Carlton was a private business they would all be gone or we would have gone under.

I certainly don't disagree with that view.

Unfortunately they came to us as old school 90yos, who were past it. The younger one in-between, who wasn't a well credentialed premiership coach, was easily the most successful. We played finals then, less than two years after Pagan had made us a basket case. While not disregarding other aspects Ratten's efforts showed coaching had something to do with it. Either that or Ratten was a genius nearly making ac PF despite the drawbacks of the club, it's administration, recruiting and football department as a whole.

Finished Ratten's contract and then booked in Roos the year he wanted to coach. Perhaps we should start completing contracts for a start.
