By oath. I respect gro's inside info and footy knowledge. So if he says barker is impressive then so be it.

But we are given a chance to break from a culture of failure and instead we full on embrace it. I can't get excited about barker having the job

..the club needed barker.. ....they have embarked upon the 'draft will save us' route, and barker will do what's right for the club.. ..quid pro quo..

..I don't know why people are shocked.. ..barker has said he is doing what is right for the club.. ..the club has said these results won't hurt his prospects.. ..done deal..

..he has also shown us he can coach modern footy, and get the players competing strongly.. ..after proving this, he is coaching now for picks.. ..he did his audition, and passed the test, now onto to the dirty business of a rebuild.. ..he is already sorting out the competitors from the fakers..

It could be argued that the appointment of the recruitment manager is more important than the new coach whoever that may be................... jungle drums are beating out west that we are going gangbusters for Simon Dalrymple.Thats what those in the know out there are saying.Would be a good get for mine.

Depends how many actually applied. Barker might be the best of them. Hard to tell from the outside.

We'd know more about Barker after he gets to put his own imprint on the side during pre-season. Right now he's stuck with the remnants of previous shit with a depleted side.

with respect Drewgirl you are being hysterical and nonsensical.

why can't the process have been followed and Barker be the best candidate found from that very process?

(which is what i believe has occurred)

I hear you Gro, but for goodness sake we need fresh eyes. What is wrong with getting someone from outside the club with fresh ideas. Not someone else's cast off or someone we already know. Take a chance for once!

What has Barker done in his time at Carlton?

It's not like our forward or back lines have run with anything remotely looking like smoothness or cohesion.

I don't believe that the head coach has complete say in everything, the coaches should have been working as a team. So barker just sat their and did or said nothing?

Ugh it doesn't matter anyway, me whinging will make no difference.

..the process may have also seen us look at candidates, they then looked at us and ran away screaming....

Not sure if the analogy is valid, but I've seen executive chefs who weren't really great sous chefs, but we're great at running the whole kitchen.

I'm not saying this will make Barker a great (or good) head coach.

Less than 2 years ago we were all trying to have him sacked. Now he has got the job. Shit we have no idea on here.

First time poster, long time reader of these forums. Just reading the last few pages has got me really angry. I've followed Carlton for over 30 years. I love the club, haven't missed watching a game for years (Whether that is going or watching the game on tv). If John Barker gets the job as coach then I'm done with this club. He's been here for what 5 years and they honestly think he is the best person for the club?

We are such an amateur football club, so much I'd like to say....but what's the point. RIP Carlton.

I wouldn't be shocked if Barker was selected. I would be disappointed if the decision has been made already. If so a true process hasn't been followed. How long since the selection committe was appointed?

MLG said today it was around 10 coaches still being interviewed. So did he deliberately lie?

If it's Barker, announce it and move forward. I am not doubting Gro but I have trouble believing he has been picked already.

Dane, you are right. Everyone has been saying for ages Barker was shit and couldn't believe he was still at the club. Even at another clubs he was shit apparently, but now he is good enough for our senior coaching role.

What have we become? Desperate I think.

Of course we are drama queens. Sick of being shit.

Richmond, Melbourne and St kilda have passed us.

The amount of shit I cop as I am so passionate.

I took my little nephew to his first game on Saturday night, and had to tell him not to worry as we are not very good right now as we have a lot of sick players. But you have to be loyal I told him. His sister has started barracking for Geelong.
