If that's the case either we're idiots or we have "someone" lined up for 2017.

I'm tipping idiots, either way.

the fact they need to work out how to sell it should tell them it's the wrong decision.

Not really.

Behind the scenes he has done every thing right.

that might be right - but you shouldn't have to 'sell' a new coach. it should be an exciting/optimistic announcement. as in, the opposite of everything Mick's 'reveal' was.

Ummm... just tell us why he was deemed better than the other candidates. If they have to work hard for a sell they're barking up the wrong tree.

ok, maybe my choice of words are bad.

He has enough qualities etc - to be able to sell his appointment but they are correct in being wary of the perception the process wasn't followed - e.g. see Drewgirls response above. They are correct in working through this issue as part of any announcement.

Drewgirl - Yes i am serious , From the conversation i had with someone today he is as good as home in the role. I am very confident in this information and who it came from and there are a few people on here who would know why i am comfortable with this. Nothing is signed yet though.

Robertbb - Sorry I dont know, All i can say is i have been lucky enough to see Barker in action up close and personal and i was very impressed.

I hope you're wrong Gro.

If this "process" is just a charade then this club hasn't learnt a thing. :banghead:

PS Anyone else hear MLG speak on the news tonight. Just sounds lost.

Fantastic, so the club is lying to us again by pretending to go through a process and then waiting a sufficient time to cover the lack of process.

So we are keeping the same guy who has been with us for 6 years. Who even as an assistant had the chance to make a difference.?

Back to square one, no change and this club will not improve.

Do I get a membership next year? I always do but am seriously questioning this club, as they lie and take the easy way out all the time.

Their lies are now predictable.....

We're looking at naming a coach by August's end so I'd imagine we've gone through a process. Wonder who actually put their hand up for the job. We might simply be stuck with the best of the applicants, not the best around. We're not exactly a plum job for a prospective career coach. Adelaide is more appealing.

You didn't but this club is too lazy to take risk. Better the devil you know is their motto.

They wouldn't take a risk on Dew as he hasn't coached on his own. Bolton as well.

Barker is there, the players love him like they loved Malthouse. It's bullcrap.

Our president using words like whoever the new coach will be, be it from another club. Blah blah.

They are lying again.

Why not announce it then if we are going for him? Don't take us for a ride. New are not stupid.

Big mistake. Start the sack thread now.

I'd just like to know a little more about the presentation process that each candidate went through, because I would have thought Barker's understanding of the list and access within the club would give him a distinct advantage when offering plans and strategies.

If they counteracted that by giving them something to work with to draw up a blueprint, then I'm happy with them choosing Barker, even though I don't personally agree with it. The AFL seems now to be an awful industry in terms of coaching/sports management to observe simply because it's a pack of small-minded people with small-minded variations on small-minded ideas.

I almost feel sorry for the corporate side of things.

Stevo is on Talking Footy panel tonight and said they are very close to selecting a coach. He'll talk about it more very soon.
