Form is temporary; Carlton's class is permanent.

One thing I noticed about Jones on Friday night was on two or three occasions he leapt into a pack but didn't raise his arms. The one in the third quarter where Levi spilt the mark, jones was quite high of the ground but his arms were down by his side. I know he likes to mark on his chest, like Walker, but that is terrible technique.
Don't think he could make it as a defender without work rate and not sure he could instinctively spoil.

Tank is well and truly on - Smith is in this week. And if you've seen him in the VFL - it's a joke.

For those of us who have not watched a lot of VFL this season, what have been the main problems with his game?

I thought, despite not being ready, he showed some AFL attributes in the NAB Challenge and in his few games at the start of the season.

Funny how Smith was picked by MM as the first of the new draftees to play AFL. Sub both rounds 1 and 2. And some 16 weeks later even his VFL form's shocking.

So does he give us anything to work with, or is he another wasted pick?

He went back the vfl reserves a few weeks back. Same reasons Yarran was dropped a while ago.

Since coming back he has been horrible - does not play as a team player.

I know it's exciting to think he likes to hit people - but it's generally his sole focus to the point it distracts from his game, affects the team etc etc. He ignores his opponent.

Let's just say there are some people @ VFL level that are astounded he is playing v Norf.

Rd18 teams on http://afl.com.au Carl v NMelb; Carrazzo, Wood, Menzel, Smith in for Jones, Holman, Walsh, Johnson. NMelb unchanged.

I think there is something there. Fitness is the concern for me. Showed some good signs recently in defence but surprised to see him picked. Maybe he will be sub?

No problem with Johnson, and Jones. Would have liked have seen Walsh get a full game.

Maybe a late in, with Smith sub.

Smith won't be able to get in the same part of the ground as Harvey.

Maybe the club is punishing Smith by making him play in this game.
