Things can turn quickly. It isn't that long ago Hawthorn were on their knees and almost amalgamated with Melbourne. It was a mystery to me how quickly they sank from their glory days, and look at them now. Can we do it? Can we survive is probably the more pertinent question.

No point in going to bed, I won't sleep, I'm gunna have a beer (or several). Damn them, I wish Carlton didn't mean so much to me. The generations of support before me, now my grandkids following them. I don't even feel angry, just sad.

Those days of Hawthorn and Melbourne merging were before Fitzroy disappeared.

Is tonight ultimately good or bad for our development? On the one hand the likes of Holman, Boekhorst, Bell, Cripps, Buckley, Docherty, Walsh & Johnson experienced playing against the best and found out the level they need to get to.

On the other hand, what does tonight do to their confidence?

You just torpedoed your arguement. When Malthouse arrived everyone was on multi year contracts.

Thanks for Brett and Wayne Hughes for over 5 years of no development

Ratten has been our only good coach since 2001. Five years ago we were playing finals.

One injury riddled year in 2012 and we shat ourselves. Have been [REDACTED] ever since.

Exactly. Ratts was responsible for the only period of joy Carlton have experienced this century. But people want to look clever by contorting and revising until Ratts becomes Satan and Pagan/Mick are the second coming. Bollocks the lot of it. What happens on the ground is all that matters.

why would this slaughter be any different to the others from 2001 onwards.

And your mate added Thomas, Jones and Tutt...

Incredible how many are unwilling to the share the blame around and only select one/a few.

Don't act silly. You know that trading exists in the AFL.

I blame McKay and Rogers as much as anyone for this.

It boils down to this: Betts out, Thomas in. Anyone thinking that's a plan for success is senile or corrupt or both.

Really... it boils down to that?

Have a look at the 2009/10/11 drafts... and that's just for starters.

In a number of ways, off the field, the club has worked hard to engage supporters this year.

But to no avail.

Crowds down, down , down, despite Plucka Duck.

I would think another few hundred would have been there tonight had Judd been playing.

It will be a long time, I would think, before crowd numbers rise substantially and consistently for us.

Only winning will do it.

Never knew the coach actually selected the player. Might suggest the type of player he wants, the recruiter selects the player. Ratten turned us from a total rabble to a finals side in 2 years and within a kick of a PF 2 years later. Relatively speaking, he's looking outstanding right now.

Barker: "You saw the difference between the elite of the competition and us. It's a clear illustration of the work we have ahead of us."
Barker: "Marc Murphy was outstanding tonight. That said, he contributed to the skill errors, too. We just went into our shells."
Q) Can you see them being beaten for the premiership? Barker: "No."
Barker: "When Hawthorn players get their hands on the ball, it's very hard to tackle them. That said, we made far too many skill errors."
Barker: (On Murphy) "He's the captain, so he's hurting. We don't want to put Carlton people through this." #AFLBluesHawks

20 years since meaningful success. [REDACTED] up this rebuild with utter incompetence in multiple areas. Asking for patience so they can try again. Good luck with that....

The club is [REDACTED] good and proper.

They're gambling on the rank and file putting up with this utter tripe as if we've been blessed with success for the past 15 years  :screwy: :banghead:

Eddie talking sense. A lot of Melbourne clubs are stuffed due to being in no mans land when the two new clubs took all the players from the draft.

Teams have been down for a long time at a time when things were designed to be equalised.

The AFL have to rethink things.

It's all of it. We need to forget the past and start again.
