terribly flawed logic.

in the history of the AFL/VFL, could you please make a list of all successful, grand final winning coaches who have never played an AFL/VFL game please.

in another column, for comparison, could you make a list of all successful flag winning coaches who've played 1-49 afl games, and then another list of coaches with 50+ games.

you might find there is a direct correlation to coaching success and experience playing at the highest level.

of course there are exceptions to every rule and lloyd could be a ripper. but it seems typical of carlton's last few decades. get in the big name coach, or the guy who's never played the game at the highest level.

our drafting philosophy over the same period is full of high risk/ high reward – read, gambling – moves as well.

as a club, off the field we are bi-polar. from one extreme to the other. the successful clubs of the last decade don't have a high instance of gambling with coaching appointments or drafting/ FA signing. they get the best available, and pertaining to coaching, the best available is usually someone with playing experience at the top level.

thank you for your time.

Maybe Lloyd wowed the panel with an amazing plan that prevents the oppositions worst player having his career highlight game against us.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Lloyd got the gig purely because "Ross said we should".

I would.............blokes like Bolton and Lloyd are 100 to 1 chances. They are a chance but only a very slight chance IE Brendan McCartney....................reckon Braithy sums it up nicely.

Not impressed at all with this style of play.

We don't have a switch open, so teams are lapping up working us over without having to run out the other side. We're exhausting ourselves with this one-dimensional bullshit.

No forward line tonight at all. Terrible structures tonight. Still hope we go through a proces in picking a coach.

It's as though Lyon's gameplan comes as a surprise every time Carlton plays Fremantle.

Play into their hands every time.

Barks seems like a nice guy who the players like but we need a coach who understands the importance of a forward line.

i really hope we don't get anyone from the fremantle coaching program. they play such a negative gameplan. the 95 they scored last night was their highest score in 7 rounds of footy.

hopefully someone has some sense at cfc to identify the way we want to play, bold, running footy with an uncompromising never backdown mentality (like swans, hawks, west coast, even the dogs and saints are playing like this) ... and then get the coach who will perform this the best. ie find the coach who shares this mantra, as opposed to finding the coach they like the most, and then asking them to bend to ours.

I wouldn't have an issue if Barker was given the job.

hope Barker doesn't trash his future prospects while doing the right thing by Carlton.

Pretty obvious we are not making winning our main objective .

Dilemma for Barker.

Minimise the risk of big blow outs by playing a shit defensive style game with no chance of victory, or play a risky attacking game style which may play more to our strengths but might be the nail in the coffin for his future aspirations if we have a couple of hundred point shockers. Always surprises me how reactive club boards are to single massive losses and how many senior coaches have been sacked on the spot over the years after a shocker.

I want Barker to help players not play scared, like they clearly were under Malthouse. We just need to see something different, attacking and tactically astute, irrespective of margins.
