Will work well with Trigg then.

I think 'unique & ideal position' is being misinterpreted as box seat. He has an advantage but he's not home and hosed.

I hope they are not going with the devil they know, as they are afraid of risk. I personally think Barker is doing a good job at the moment in the honeymoon period, but I still think we need someone from the outside with no prejudice and a new concept. Someone from a successful model, for fresh ideas.

I'm waiting for Michael Jeez to come on here and say Barker deliberately undermined Malthouse so he could get the top job .Because Barker knew what terrific development Malthouse put into the players and the great recruiting that has been done.

Barker saw the way that Ratts got handed the job after getting a few nice supportive media quotes from the players and stringing together some honourable losses.

He knows that this administration has a track record of being spineless, lazy, and easily led.

In the past, two wins as caretaker coach and a few of the players saying what a nice fellow you are would have been enough to secure the job.

Let's hope the bar has been lifted.

It's probably just as wrong to be so one sided about it the other way, but Barker should not be considered the favourite precisely because he is from Carlton.

We need new ideas and outside influences.

Good leadership comes from individuals who are willing to change and embrace change. Maybe JB has that capacity. It is not necessarily true that he has only gleaned his coaching style from Carlton coaches. He may have sought out many other sources within his coaching development course.

What is to say that he has watched MM and silently deliberated that MMs style was antiquated and he wants to be the antithesis of MMs autocratic methods. It may be a blessing in disguise that Barker was able to witness it first hand and watch how MM lost his players along the way and garbage they produced on the field. All speculation at the moment. All I know is Barker is saying the right things and seems to have his head screwed on the right way. Whether that's enough....who knows?

Yep, I guess all we can do is repsect "the process" and see what happens.

Yep. I don't read anything in Trigg's quotes to suggest that the process will be anything but fair, open and unbiased. It's true that Barker has a unique position to showcase his skills with the group. To suggest otherwise would be silly. To say so however doesn't suggest favouritism, merely a reflection of reality.

Ultimately, if the club/Trigg can't trust the group they've assembled to make the recommendation, there's no group they will ever trust.

Wouldn't be getting to excited about Barker getting the job ... Trigg playing it well.

You may find a freshness about the coaching panel next year.

I'm more worried about finding a new captain that has some authority and respect from the player's.

Giving Barks a wrap is smart. He's given nothing away. Always play your cards close to your chest.

What frustrates me is Mick keeps yapping in the media. For goodness sakes Mick you've left the building, so how about you just put a muzzle on it !!

Havent heard what he has to say. Bad form if it is sniping the club and admin. But surely none of us can have a problem if its general comentary.
I would rather listen to mm than half the dim witted agenda driven "journalists" out there

I think the problem is that Mick is still in shock, hasn't come to terms with it yet.

With Collingwood, he went out swinging, and he knew he wasn't finished.
This time ... it's much harder.

I don't think that Mick will have anything useful to contribute to this particular recruitment process. So yes, I'd prefer he kept his mouth shut. Save his expertise for other areas of football - join the coaches association or something.

Just let the panel do their job, hopefully without any meddling from the board.

There has been a bit of gossip on the 3AW rumour file that a 3AW panellist has been approached for the job. Bomber Thompson and Cameron Ling are the only ones I could think of. Another rumour is a team of Ratten and Neil Craig.
