Defensively we are still very good under Barker - aside from a few undisciplined moments - but sadly our attacking play is far too slow and risk averse. But I'm not sure what the answer is when so few players can kick the ball or stick a handpass from 2 metres.

Yep.
So many missed targets: maybe excusable when kicking in a swirly wind. But handpasses!?!

Did we win a single match up? I can name a few who broke even, but did anyone win one?

36 inside 50s...

Terrible game. Imagine how many neutrals would have turned their TV's off and went to bed when the Kreuzer mark was given to the man waiting for the crumbs. Killed the game. The advertisers will not be happy.

Blues were pretty bad. Passangers. Losing Jamo early didnt help. Yaz all over the shop. Forwards were not match for Rance.
Cripps played like Carrazzo and killed a lot of our attacks. Field very raw. Menzel not much chop at the moment.
Still looked better that the MM days. Like the short passing game and attempting to keep things compact. Helps defensively. Need to refine out attack.

Shocking game all around but it's Reality. Can't question effort but we have an average list with too many pasengers.

To challenge we need to bring teams down to our level. I rate Richmond a mid range side.

More game time for kids and Kruezer good. Still like Henderson in defence, against quality defenders really struggles up forward. Thought Tuohy was good and has been playing a much more positive style under Barker.

Maybe missing Byrne, Docherty & Graham from best side but not a lot more.

Major questions over Yarran's mental toughness and not giving a rats for his teammates and Menzel with 1 kick and 2 tackles.

Shaun Gale was the dominant ruckman tonight

Plenty to take out of this game. Plenty of losses ahead of us this year but we aren't the rabble we were a mere few weeks ago.

Pleased with the effort again, but 5 goals won't win too many games.

A lot of sore, tired players, but once again our use of the ball was sub standard. We really had enough of the ball to win (like last week), but turn over after turn over, shot after shot for goal missing. I dunno, are the players capable of better ball use? Can they be improved? Or does there simply need to be a big clean out?

Rest anyone who is carrying an injury, play the kids (which we are) just try to improve our systems, how much we lose by doesn't matter.

Hendo must play key defensive role for the rest of the season, and the rest of career. He's potentially All Australian Key Back. Plays the odd good game up forward, but Careys' observations tonight were spot on, and Barker should listen and learn. He's a total wasted player up forward. His opposition backmen run off him, his 2nd efforts are often poor, his 1st efforts tonight were worse. It was a horrible game from a Key Fwd, zero work rate . I'd rather play Watson and Casboult together.

If he leaves and goes to Geelong, I'm sure they'll play him down back, and he will go on to have a very good career as a key defender.

Work it out coaching staff, it stands out like dogs balls.

I'm calling Murphy, Gibbs, Jamison, Cripps, White all injured.
Murphy played three quarters injured or sore and I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't got a corked hip.
Gibbs looks like a pec or shoulder.
White knee?
Cripps was just going at 50% pace all night and needs a rest at least
Jamo concussion
Menzell playing on one leg?

They were tired from the first bounce tonight and didn't run it at all, which was not how they've been playing. Tackling was good. I thought Richmond and Cotchin in particular sniped early on and Murphy and Cripps copped the brunt of it.

I am concerned about Menzell and Yarran. Neither of them is contributing much atm. Yarran gets it but his foot skills have complletely deserted him and he just doesn't run with it at all. He is tackling more but that isn't what we need from him. If this is all he can do for us, get rid of him and try for a top twenty pick.
Menzell has to be injured. I recall him getting one handball and one spoil for the night but can't think of anything else. If he isn't injured, he should be in the twos and if he is, he shouldn't be playing at all.

Kreuzer is playing good footy again and I hope he can stay on the park.
Everitt mobile again but no real contriibution tonight.
Casboult two more goals to add to his tally. Marked everything. Didn't give away any frees that I saw. Get rid of him.
Simmo another Simpson-like game but missed a couplle of kicks.
Fields will want to forget his first game. Didn't do much, got beaten by Vickery and played in a losing team. Showed his kicking skills a couple of times. Play him next week.
Touhy had plenty of it but those two dropped marks spoiled his evening. No shame in getting outbodied at the end by Martin. Martin is one of the best medium sized players in the comp.
Henderson was lost tonight. Silly decision making was the norm for him tonight, handballing short in defence instead of kicking it, ordinary leading. He is looking less attractive by the minute for a raid unless he is playing to avoid injury, which I doubt.

Our kicking skills have been crap for years and it showed again tonight. I didn't hear the % efficiency but I'm going for 50% tops.

All in all it was a shit game of footy, made worse by 50+ free kicks and other dubious calls.

AFL as a game is rooted. Please, add more rules and interpretations this season and next too!! The umpires, players, commentators and fans all have no idea what is going on. They have stuffed it with overlapping rule after rule - and this is the spectacle we get.

On carlton, that went about as expected. We just don't have enough talented players, that's what happens when you miss so many 1st and 2nd round draft picks over an extended period.

So our skills are poor and we are left with players like Tutt, Bell, Army and co who have glaring deficiencies that just can't cut it.

Hendo smashed up forward, proved how good he can be down back but we all know this.
Menzel couldn't get a sniff, if he isnt training, why isn't he recuperating?
Yarran has lost his head.
Curnow, Carrots, White, Army, Bell, Tutt, wood, Casboult all are poor field kicks. You just can't expect to be a good team with so many bad kicks.

I only saw 80% of the game but for that 80% Casboult kicked well. Both in front of goal and around the ground.

It will take a few years

Henderson is useless a forward if there's a contest. Carey and Ling are on the money, he lacks aggression as a forward. If it's not on a silver platter he's timid and ineffective.

And Yarran is an undisciplined pea heart whose skills are grossly overrated.

I don't normally look at matchups pregame but I had us well in front on that pregame.
Certainly poor conversion led to heads dropping - on both sides of the fence.
But our first 5 set shots were from the Jarrad Waite Memorial Boundary Line.

No authority in the leadership out there.

Gibbs, Murph, Simmo, Carrotts... good players on occasions but they're not imposing and don't inspire very much. Yarrans attitude proves it.

Random thoughts....

I suspect Barker is coaching very defensively. Part of the trouble having a coaching candidate as caretaker

Yarran must go, still has currency and looks to be going through the motions
Split on Henderson also

Umpiring....simply appalling

Overall, what a disgusting spectacle

Not much went our way.

Not much left in the tank by the end.

I wouldn't worry too much about what we saw tonight.

I think I know what you're saying, but anytime Carlton show such a poor skill rate, and such little depth, I do worry.

We've seen something in some of these young blokes in the last 6 weeks so that's something important.
