I thought we did OK with the players that we had available. Can't fault the effort but, as expected, the execution let us down badly. We struggle for class and polish anyway, so when blokes like Gibbs and Menzel are out, it makes things very difficult.

Armfield was one of our best but I think he was also emblematic of the performance and perhaps the club in general at the moment - great trier, some good moments but short on the finishing and execution skills required to compete at a high level.

This is the thread discussing the 11 point loss to a top 8 team right?

Cause I feel like I'm reading the thread on a 50 point loss to GC.

Dogs have been rebuilding for 5 years. Stock piled picks (nailed them too) and are finally coming out the other side of a rebuild.

We are literally starting the rebuild. Get some perspective. Half or probably more than half of the players on our list won't be around when we contend for finals again.

Well said. I thought BB was 'ok'.

As an aside....I hear Daniel is only 167....commentators touched on it briefly

Apparently he wears a helmet too. Didn't notice that myself, and was a bit surprised that they hardly mentioned it.

Btw, does Jake(y) Stringer have a nickname?

Bokehurst is 22? I expected more
Please explain johnsons tricks? Speed, a good mark,
Whiley is a 3rd year afl player
Tutt year 4

What has 22 got to do with it. He is in his 1st season and 2nd or so full game. That's the point.
Johnson is 19. What tricks did Graham have? Did Simpson have tricks when he started. There are 100's of AFL players that have no tricks or just one trick but they make it.

As for Whiley and Tutt I never mentioned them.

Regards Cazzesman

What about Barker ! Taking on this years buzz team. A few years ahead of us on a rebuild with loads of talent and Barker coached Carlton with a totally undermanned lineup took them to the line. He had a bunch of young players that are apparently not up to it and a bunch of middle of the road afl players who didnt play well, in game injuries and still manage to have a team structure that got us close. Probably could have won it with some better finishing early in the game.

I like what i see.

We need more talent though. Hopefully we can get some top ten picks to develop.

I'll tell you one trick he never developed in 13 seasons at this club and that's a right foot, and every player in the AFL except him an our list know it.

What crap
The majority on here have been frustrated that Graham and BUckley were never given the opportunity under MM because they DID show something.
A 167cm midget showed more in half a game for the Dogs, than BB, Whiley and Tutt combined in all there games. And he's under 20 in his first season!!!
Sounds like a raw nerve has been hit?

Well i am overseas at the moment. I briefly got scores after 10 minutes and i think the dogs were 12 points up. I expected a blow out with this young side.
Instead i see that we held our own for the rest of the match, losing by a similar amount.
Now : the dogs are 1 win behind the hawks who are fourth. We had a lot of players who are leaders who were out. Judd, daisy, gibbs, carrazo, docherty, walker, thats a lot of run and tallent there. Rowe was out also.
Look at holman. Last week he looked like a gem, because he slotted into our framework of experienced players. This week there was no framework.
Players like graham, cripps, buckley etc are our emerging leaders, but they also need a framwork around them to realy shine.
We have a shed load of injuries and our depth is being really tested. This is exposing our lack of depth atm. But those young players havent had enough experience collectively to be able perform well yet. They need development and brief forays into the seniors is part of that. But they will be exposed.
Ideally we dont have 5 top midfielders out/retired when we bring in the kids for exposure, because there is no framework. But it had to happen this week. Lets get some more run into the legs of the youngsters and dribble them into the senior side rather than pour them in like we did today.
Its all BS stating that the bulldogs were terrible. We didnt allow them to play well. Kudos.

Good post Club 29

Still think everyone is a bit harsh on Whiley and tutt still both under 23 and room for improvement
7 players under 15 games -people were beside themselves when the dogs did it last year and the year before

We judge our own harshly -Bont who is going to be good has been very average the last 5 games for dogs and last night wasn't as good as graham yet has played 25 games and gets a leave pass whereas we hack into our players that have played less than 15 games

We need more talent and need to draft wisely but let's give the young players a go
I know it's a long time ago but I didn't think when they started Fraser brown or sexton were going to be good and they ended up being fine players
Someone mentioned Simpson iirc he didn't get a possession in his first few games
Perspective

Patience with young players -need a rebuild -we all recognize that now we have one there is a bit of pain but also some frustration

As I said last 4 weeks have been a joy to watch -club for the first time in ages actually doing what they said

Delighted to get the points last night - we are still very much a work in progress. Teams have done their homework on our rebounding and quick transition out of defensive 50, so for such a young team to be able to find a way after half time to cobble together a winning score and counter the opposition set-up was very pleasing.

We are miles ahead of where I thought we'd be, considering we lost 700-odd games of experience in the off-season and then lost our best player before the season started. Caleb Daniel is just the latest of our class of 2014 to make an instant impact at this level - shattered that Toby McLean looks to have done his shoulder as he has looked completely comfortable at this level as well.

Carlton's defensive structure and work rate has improved out of sight since MM was sacked. Was again very good last night, if the polish going forward wasn't quite there - it wasn't for us either.
