Henderson brings brains to the forward line.

Without him Cas and Jones would run into each other.

Good teams have team defence, so you win with numbers and the fashion with which the ball come into the oppositions forward line. That's why the Eagles are still competitive despite losing their two first choice defenders. It's why Freo can defend with ONE real KPD.

The day we start using the Whitnall defence is a dark one indeed.

I heard Dean laidley mention pre game that it takes alot for doc to get up week to week.
FWIW i went to an auskick clinic run by carlton and the only players that didn't attend were Menz and Docherty.

Carlton defender Sam Docherty finished Sunday's win over Gold Coast with hamstring soreness, with scans likely to reveal a minor strain that will sideline him for a short time

Johnson is coming to the end of his 2nd year on our rookie list. He has to be delisted or promoted to the senior list, he can't have a 3rd year on the rookie list (AFL rules). He has had a good year in the VFL and I think we'd be negligent not to have another look at him in the AFL before making the call.

I'm all for giving him a go but is he up to it abns? Looks a bit too one dimensional to me

Not sure if he's up to it, but I reckon he has improved. Worth another look, IMO.

:banghead:

That's a big loss for us. Is Walker any chance of returning this week?

i think we win this.

a key thing to look out for is the need to not kick it to easton wood , he intercepts a hell of a lot of entries from opposition and starts off their drive from halfback

I don't know how you got to Menzel I defence but keep taking the meds.

If that was today Menzel was 100% there.

Love Ellard's attack on the game but of all the players ut there the other day, I think he was the least productive and so I am forced to agree with the bulk of TCers that he should make way. He is a Kordan Doering type who can dominate in the VFL but not in the Firsts. Sorry, Davey but we have to nmake way for others.
I know nothing about Johnson so can't comment. In fact I have nno iea of VFL form other than what I read in the press. I am in favour of giving kids who perform well at the next level a crack at the big tome so if Ellard goes and Menzell is injured, we need to replece them with someone.
Jamo seems the likely 'in' for Ellard and Sydney Blue's idea of White for Melzell is a ood one IMO. White is your typical versatile player who can go to both ends. He's tallish, quickish, and a scrapper. He has played forward for us before and done OK. He is not as versatile as Everitt but he can play both ends.
The other option is Yarran for Menzell and White for Yarran. I like Yarran playing in the front half.

Both fantastic players and both already subjected to the hard tag from the opposition. Not bad for a couple of teenagers who are still 2-3 years away from hitting their peak when their core strength and aerobic capacity catches up with their prodigious talent.

This is a genuine toss of the coin job - you blokes have improved out of sight the last 3 weeks, especially in defensive intensity and much quicker ball movement. We are going just ok - no better than you guys the last month. Have to keep reminding myself that we have 5 teenagers running around and 11 players under 50 games, so 'ugly' wins like we had on Saturday should be cherished just as much as the better wins. We are miles ahead of where I thought we'd be in 2015 to date - I guess I underestimated the impact that having a coach who knows what the hell he's doing can do in a short space of time. BMac didn't rate Wood and Johanniessen but loved Mark Austin - says it all really

Well he must have made a very very quick exit coz my son got every player to sign his jumper and Menzel,Docherty and Boakhurst are not on it.

You guys are easily a 4-6 goal better side than us.
We beat Port and the suns who both for different reasons are really struggling.
I hope we play with the same intensity and run that we have been of late BUT you guys at Etihad are a great running outfit that we won't match.
Move the ball quickly and our defence will be all at sea..........
Hopefully it should be a good game to watch and all we ask is effort which was lacking earlier in the year..

And why they won't win the flag.

I count McPharlin and Johnson at the minimum for them?

Not in the last few weeks we're not - Melbourne and St Kilda have beaten us and we fell over the line against the Saints in the return match. Also Port beat us comfortably. We're only just going at the moment - it is a long season and our kids are starting to feel the pinch. Fully expecting this weekend to be a tight affair.

Need to make him accountable. We should never play +1 in defense anyway.
Also will need to play better than we did on the weekend to win against Doggies. Big 2 games coming up.

In: Jamison, Walker, Boekhorst
Out: Menzel, Docherty, Ellard

Tuohy Jamison White
Yarran Rowe Buckley
Graham Carrazzo Simpson
Everitt Henderson Bell
Kruezer Casboult Armfield
Wood Cripps Murphy
Curnow Holman Boekhurst sub: Walker

Good to hear from you Sedat, one our favourite non Blues fans. The Bullies have had some down games, so I think it might be tight. We were average against GC who played defensively against us. Good sides will play their own game which frees us up a bit.

If the dogs are below their best we are a chance. Hopefully both Holman and BB get a game, like to see how they go. People wanting Rowe out are forgetting how good he was against Schultz. Rowe is an honest battler and good leader, just don't let him short pass across the backline. Ellard is one battler too many. If jamo is fit then in Jamo BB and out Menz (inj) and Ellard. Levi needs to get to more contests and we need to move the ball quickly to an option. Too often we heistate, wave our arms then do a short kick wide of the mark, or kick long under pressure after the umpire has called play on. Players who are slow to move it on need to have someone running by for a handball.
