I agree Tuohy had a verygood NAB Challenge but what I saw of Ciaran Byrne he could very quickly become the cream of the Irish crop - very exciting

I hope Tuohy has a sensational year. The other 2 Irish boys are going to push hard.

How many Irishmen does it take to turn a Carlton team around?

You should send a retrospective email to the Club about this.

Talia is like when Richmond took Tambling over Buddy

Going forward for the rest of 2015, with Barker as our interim coach and allowing for injury and form issues, I would like to see the following team be our core team and extended bench/back ups.

Backs: Rowe, Jamison, Simpson
HB: Docherty, Henderson, Byrne/Touhy/Sheehan
Centre: Kreuzer, Murphy, Cripps, Bell, Walker, Yarran
HF: Everitt, Jaksch, Gibbs
FF: Army, Casboult, Buckley

Bench: Curnow, Judd, Thomas, Menzel, Wood, White, Graham.

Henderson needs to go back to find some form and confidence.
Jaksch needs the same position each week as a forward to also find confidence and form.
The Irish boys perform very well off the HB line and give us some real pace, penetration, rebound.
Everitt is a better value used as a forward for us, as the game against Sydney showed.
Casboult is finding his kicking accuracy finally and need to continue crashing packs, taking marks, and allowing for Army and Buckley to feed from any crumbs and be our mobile small opportunistic forwards, applying defensive pressure.
Put game time into the young guys and allow Judd, Menzel and Thomas to play off the bench as impact players in shorter bursts to help manage their, and their other team mates, obvious injury and fitness issues.

Jones needs to be banished to the Northern Blues until he is averaging 3 to 4 goals every week over an extended period, and has learned to mark the ball at arms length in front of his eyes. Nothing else should be accepted and if he can't do this should remain in the VFL for the remainder of his contract, be traded or delisted. Sav Rocca seems to be making some pleasing improvements to Casboults kicking, maybe he can work magic with Jones overhead marking skills/ability.

The new coach needs to create a unified team and build confidence in each other, the structures and game plan. He can turn things around week by week and resurrect our fortunes going forward. I just want to see us playing consistent free flowing football again, the players enjoying their football and each other, and our ball handling skills showing significant improvement.

Reading back some people should hang their heads in shame predicting we would get anywhere near the top 8 this year :donk:

Alternatively the entire football department should hang its head in shame for not getting anywhere near the top 8 this year.

Given we finished the 2014 season strongly.
Judd signed on for another year because he expected the team to show big improvement.
MM said it was a great preseason with only a couple missing.
Great to have the list fit.
Kreuzer was going to be our new recruit.
The young Irishmen were expected to take backline positions and release Yarran and Docherty into midfield roles.
Our kids Menzel, Buckley Cripps to improve over the preseason.
We bring in Giants players Jaksch and Whiley to fill gaps.
Pick 19 Boekhurst as a ready made mature player for outside speed.

Nothing to do with my head other than believing the hype...I mean tripe we got from Eddies plant Mick Malthouse.

I agree I was made to look like a fool, but no shame here scotto. I'm innocent in all this.

No direct go at anyone just amazed that people were sucked in by Malthouses bullshit.
At the end of the day we had 7 wins last year no matter what you think about the side finishing strongly.
We have a very poor structure a lot of C graders and a couple of B graders for our Key Posts.
Our list is full of state league players that have limited development.
With Kreuzer injured our Ruck is a mess.
We traded in a heap of recycled duds that struggled at other clubs and have limited upside apart from Jaksch who I only think will be a B Grader at best.
And our few good kids are 21 and over old apart from Cripps.
We only have Cripps and maybe Smith as our talented 18/19/20 year olds. Other sides have 5 plus.
Malthouse continued to say we were at 11.00 O'clock in the premiership window then when we lose he'd say we have a ordinary list and it's not his fault. Half the list is Malthouses doing.
Our list is about 5th or 6 in average age? Yet we're rebuilding? Well done Mick..............
Anyway a fresh start for the club lets hope we finally get it right with SOS.

wondering if the term 'Best 22' is an oxymoron describing our team at the minute!

Could we look like this next year?

B: Buckley Jamison Fields
HB: Tuohy Henderson Sheehan

Foll: Kruezer Gibbs Graham
C: Byrne Cripps Docherty

HF: Bell Casboult Thomas
F: Schache Dixon Murphy

Int: Jaksch Simpson C.Curnow DVR Smith

Hopefully in the draft we can add some outside run and class through the middle.

I'd trade Yarran & Menzel for good picks or players. We can cover them.

I think its a no brainer to put henderson back to CHB . For me that completes our backline. Hopefully fields continues to capitalise on the green shoots he showed yesterday. I Like buckley in the backline.
Tuohy and sheehan look good to me as well.

Midfield. Whilst not dominant, its certainly not our Achilles heel. We need to add to it sure, but only at the elite level. We have plenty of quality, just no elite players ( possibly/probably cripps qualifies)

Forward line. That is where the fun begins. If we can pick up a key forward that would make the forward line very different.
"New casboult" is a lock for me.
Key forward recruit- must be elite
Third tall from . Watson, everitt, walker( can he still jump?) jaksch, rowe, jones, foster

Plenty of flexibility. Everitt can play as medium forward or third tall. Thomas can take a good grab. Menzel can take a grab.
Could clem be moulded into the crumbing forward?

IF we can get above value for yarran and menzel i feel that they are expendible. For me that means a top 10 pick for each. Or in a trade for a key forward like dixon

I like where you're thinking structurally given the proposed talent, but I think long term, Buckley won't be in defence. He's been admirable, but he's undersized against most opponents, and in attack he sees the game differently to most people (and for the better); that's something you want in midfield and moving into the 50.

Fields is someone who I think needs to have an impressive pre-season to be in with a shout early on next year, likewise Jaksch. Like it or not, that opens the door again for Rowe.

I'd only trade one of Yarran and Menzel - only for overs (#1-5 or 6-12 & 20-35) - and I'd do so with a heavy heart. I accept that something is up with Menzel's knee but I'd lament the talent we let out the door because we chose to view him as a 3 year investment instead of a 10 year one. IMO, it's akin to trading out Scharenberg, or Kreuzer.

Long term (3+ years):

FB: Sheehan <FB> <???>
HB: Tuohy Henderson Byrne
C: Buckley Murphy DVR
HF: Docherty <???> Bell
FF: Yarran Casboult Everitt

RR: Kreuzer Cripps Gibbs

Int: Boekhorst Menzel Graham
Sub: <???>

Basically we do need another reliable tall defender for when Jamison hangs up the boots, but I would be happy enough with the structure at either end with two good talls such that we could bring in players on merit, whether that might be Smith and then have Byrne or Sheehan man the 3rd forward, provided they're not over 6'4". The forward at the other end would need to be quick and have some threat at ground level.

Ideally I'd want at least one of the question mark positions to be taken up by a tall (preferably not the sub), so that we're not stretched. We need to use the best talent we have, and if that leaves us with 5 KPP and Cripps, that's something that should get more consideration than it does in today's copycat league.

In terms of what we have on the list, here are some of the stand out candidates:

Foster - forward
Jaksch - back/forward
Fields - back
Smith - back/forward
Giles - back
Holman - midfield

It's safe to say we should only be recruiting an elite KPD that's a value pick, but otherwise our focus should be on recruiting an elite KPF or an elite forward/ruck. The midfield will need some regeneration over a 5 year window, but unless last year's draft haul comprehensively fails, and it doesn't look like it will despite all the furore re: Boekhorst, that's in better shape.

That's an absolutely appalling forward line.

And probably the best we can muster, too.
