Years ago I was talking to my then boss. His philosophy on sacking staff was that you do it on the spot and wear the payout and/or claims, his reasoning being that keeping someone around who's already been shown the door is pointless and disruptive.

Trigg, Macca and Jay have left Carlton offices, guessing they are going to the meeting Robbo is talking about.

I think the bottom line revealing itself here is that there has been an ego clash between Trigg and Malthouse from the get go that has become worse with time. An ultimate struggle for control over the club. We are now watching the end result.

Must say that in the end its MM's ego and inability to cope with rejection that are the main problem. I had great hopes and I am very disappointed. Seems to me that that a growing ego and paranoia has diminished his coaching abilities.

Eddie's manager would have to say what he had to - otherwise he'd be hauled over the coals by the AFL.

Agree with Camelboy this is now a race about PR points.

We are on a hiding to nothing.

Get him out now.

We need something to happen b4 Friday otherwise it'll be 200 points!

Most coaches go out in the public eye with dignity, because they are conscious of how that would look to any future employers. We have an unusual situation of a coach being terminated who knows it's his last appointment so rather than keeping quiet to protect his image, he feels he needs to do the opposite.

As has been mentioned, it can't do any harm as all parties need to be exposed for their incompetence.

It's like Apocalypse Now. MM as Colonel Kurtz. The man has gone off tap, and needs to be terminated due to his insanity and unsound methods.

Trigg is Captain Willard. An errand boy, sent by grocery clerks to collect a bill.

As for the board, as kennyhunter mentioned hopefully there is no pulling an ex club great out of the hat to save them now.

What worries me is that they will feel the need to produce a hastily added big name/white knight to feel like they are appeasing the masses

JE thought he could do it with Pagan, and Sticks/Swann with MM.

A Worsfold/Thompson appointment would be just like them. Ex washed up jaded Premiership coach to bide them some time.

I backed MM to the hilt, just as I did with Ratts and Pagan before hand and have once again been proved wrong. My love for this club over rides clear thinking at times and whilst as has been mentioned many times no coach could have survived in such a toxic environment, he like the others needs to shoulder much of the blame.

Kudos to Effes BV and others who saw this from the start and were able to provide a consistent narrative on the situation.

From an outside point of view the problem with Pagan and Malthouse was partly the fact they came from eras where Senior Coaches were more important than creating an environment of excellence in all areas.

The fact that both blame everything, but themselves says a lot. Pagan constantly referred to the loss of draft picks and the board, MM to the list, free agency, etc.

MM was no doubt a great coach, but never probably have enough credit to the people he had surrounding him. McGuire, Pert, Hine, Buckley etc as well as the hundreds of the support staff is what makes great clubs.

I know nothing about how to run a football club, but seeing Mick yelling at his old mate ShaneO on his headset who then passes a message to his other old mate in Robert Wiley doesn't seem to me how other clubs operate in 2015.

We created this mess by giving him 3mil and Catre Blanche on the whole operation, so if I was in his position I probably would have done the same thing....

I said have him sacked by yesterday.
Mick will be portayed as a Christ like figure painstakingly nailed to the cross
Better to just let it happen swiftly and get it over with. .. Pay him out and move on...
The media will scream either way but the scream will be shorter... This is media wet dream...
Lol

I think most of us knew it to be a fairly accurate portrayal, but out of blind loyalty to the club we love hoped that it would all be okay.

Hope is good.

Hope is also bad.

He has to go today. The Judge may be fixated on a process, but the interview this morning has blown that up. If they don't act immediately they've lost all credibility (insert joke about what credibility here).

Set aside the football club and personality issues, this is now a simple management call. They may have wanted to be respectful of Malthouse, but that's out the window. He's now actively trashing the organisation, they need him out of the club now.

If they don't act, I think a craving for process will rightly be viewed as cowardice to act.

And it's a big NO from me for Tom Elliott. I don't want the stink of his father placed back on the club. The bloke still unapologetic for bringing the club to its knees 15 years ago and if he had any influence at all would make the same mistake for a third time and bring Worsfold in without any consideration.

The club needs to take some true ownership of the situation, do the hard yards and find for themselves the best young coach who understands the modern game and give him the time and space to work with SOS and do a total rebuild.

The easy thing to do for a weak board would be to hire Worsfold and make it all his problem to fix.

We already know what the current board is all about..
But change for the sake of change like for like makes little sense.

Let Tommy know I'm available and ready to take up arms.

Until this year I was fully on board with Mick guiding the rebuild and would have given him an extra two years after this year. Thank god I am a million miles away from any decision made at the club.

This year has been a disaster. We are unfit, soft, and have demonstrated no ability but to adapt to how teams are playing us. We are also incredibly easy to play against. Stick a spare 50m on the defensive side of the stoppage, wait for the over the shoulder roost from the stoppage, and then kill us on the spread for easy goals. The coaching panel have shown they have absolutely no ability to respond to this, and the players are weak minded and weak bodied pea hearts who don't have the desire or pride to push themselves. Pretty horrible mix, and setting aside Mick's relish for lobbing public hand grenades at his employer he's simply not up to it and should be sacked for performance - that's the uncomfortable truth for him.

i must say, this is getting delicious, especially as it's increasingly looking like a pr battle.

mick will hose the board down and everyone will pile on, if it's a pr battle.
