It's been a disaster of an appointment. But a good replacement can turn us around quickly. Just need to find the right one.

Flailing all the way to a premiership and a Grand Final.

I'd love us to flail that way.

Anda McKay is waiting for you and he's wearing a big long rubber glove.

You should have told the Board about it.

I'm really ashamed of myself.

I've broken Moshe25's most cardinal rule.

If Malthouse was so good at the Pies why did they push him aside.
Eddie went out of his way to create a position for him but Malthouse couldn't see it
Everyone has their moment in the sun Micks sun was setting
Stupid Carlton couldn't see it

The year they pushed him they won
The year he had to leave they were runners up
Since then they have regressed and struggled.

Results are the benchmark. We have won a solitary game against last year's wooden spoon team.

Who is to blame for a worse start to a season than any coach ever in a long long time?

Better coaches have been sacked for better performances than this. Malthouse has been a disaster for us. A complete disaster. And he's getting worse.

You are about one inch deep, simplistic. Who is to blame?
Hughes for the worst recruiting record in the afl
Ratten for barely developing a player
Kernahan and Swan for allowing the above under his watch
The board for contributing little
Trigg and la guidice for demotivating an entire list with one word "rebuild".
Malthouse for not delivering commitment and victories under the weight of the above

Because Eddie was desperate to keep his lovechild Buckley. That was obvious. Mick was at his best at the Pies. A premiership and GF in his last 2 years prove that.

Doesn't make sense if you have the best why push him aside
Eddie surrounded Malthouse with good assistant coaches. Buckley being one.
It was the set up and the structure that enabled their success.
When he came to Carlton anyone who was seen as a threat to the head coach was moved on and he hand picked Whiley.
Malthouse was given free reign and couldn't handle it.
If you think the club said to him we want you to hang around as a mentor and brought in a younger coaching brigade that developed game day and training structure Mick would be a part of it.
Parkin did it .
Roos is currently doing it and he did it at the swans with Longmire until he took over.
Id have no issue with Malthouse standing on the boundary giving his 20 bobs worth as players came on and off like Roos did.
As long as game tactics were handled by someone else.
This was what was happening at Collingwood Mick didn't have full control.
He needs to swallow his pride and allow younger heads to prevail.
But he wont as the moment he realized this was happening at Collingwood he spat it and had a hissy fit

I did hear Mick only had free reign on two coaches...
The rest were budget constraints and Mick was ok with them.
He did attempt to bring coaches into the fold most of whom laughed at our offers.
One guy said it was not worth his while moving his family from Adelaide with what we offered him.
We were going to use him as rebound coach and mentoring the indigenous players...
Others chose other clubs for between 50/75k more.. Just highlighting the gulf of difference between what we're doing and thinking and benchmarks
Mick gets on well with the coaching group but it's not the format he was after..

Thats going to happen.
When you pay out highly rated and well compensated assistant coaches, it runs the well dry. Richardson was credited with much of Ports improvement in 2012 and he has set a strong plan for the Saints. Lets not forget he was a contracted member of our coaching group.
It was Micks ego that got in the way of that relationship as well. Richardson structured Collingwoods development academy and received a lot of the credit for the improvement of their players.
That quickly signed the death knell for his tenure under Mick at the Pies.
Someone else getting the credit. God forbid.

So Malthouse invents a personal issue between Richardson and himself and the Carlton board are foolish enough to fall for it. Dollars walking out the door plus significant football IP.

So yes, we pay out Richardson and Riley, the senior coach wants the overwhelming majority of the coaching budget in his own pocket and we're left with the sheep who won't speak up.
Even Gavin Brown couldn't wait to get out the door and go somewhere he could make a meaningful contribution. I wonder why?

We had some highly rated assistant coaches and Mick didn't want them. And others didn't want to work with him.
You can't keep throwing good money away after bad. Mick is as responsible for our current coaching set up as anyone.

I think that's got more to do with the way the club is managed and it's state than just Mick

I also think Mick doesn't need to work with Gavin and Richo if the board lured him to the club... But surely they could afford somebody else?
There were not too many young coaches that didn't want to work with him at Collingwood.. The problem was in our setup
The board CEO Andrew McKay have a responsibility to create a functioning environment for success.
They didn't
