Close the thread. No merger. We just need the right people in the right positions.

I think we should merge with GWS.

They get a great history.

They get an additional 50000 members.

We get the best list of young talent ever assembled.

The orange that was originally part of our jumper gets another run.

Silvagni gets to be CEO.

We get a coach who seems to know what he's doing.

It would shit Collingwood, Essendon* and pretty much everyone else who'd have to watch us dominate the competition for the next decade.

We get a board made up of the best performers from the two clubs' boards ie no-one from Carlton!

I get a relevant username.

That's a win win win win win win win win win!

Do it!

The Bigger Picture - Carlton's Future

The following article touches on the bigger issues. What is the future for Carlton FC?

Could it be that "merger" will be the most efffective way of becoming a competitive , financialy strong football club with a membership base to match the bigger most successful clubs.

Keep smiling

There are usually moments in games of football that speak to a bigger picture. But seldom can an entire four quarters have been as dripping with symbolism as took place at Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening.
Carlton's woes are becoming a weekly soap opera, each episode grimmer than the last. The Blues' 78-point pummelling at the hands of Greater Western Sydney, though, was a far weightier tome.
This wasn't just a team in form beating up on an opponent undermanned, out of sorts, and with less talent to draw upon. It's doubtful any game in recent times has better illustrated the shaking up of football's old world order.

All i get here is all the concessions the afl gives the interstate teams ... all the revenue sharing when we were killing it has finally caught up with us and the AFL.

the melbourne teams not named hawthorn are in dire straights. having the GC and GWS monopolise all those drafts has totally killed off any ability teams had to reload and be competitive.

brisbane wins four flags in a row thanks to their extra salary cap. swans are perennially competitive and can afford to have guys like Mitchell running around in the ressies, when he'd be just about our best mid if he were here.

i'm not saying anything nobody already knew. the afl have really struggled to find the right balance, and for years now it's been so heavily weighted to the interstate teams and they've done nothing about it.

has anyone been worse for the afl than vlad was?

This should be considered in the 'complete review of everything and everyone in the club'. Maybe not merge but relocation.

merge with GWS (we've then got two years before we @#$%&! that up - we'll bring in a porkie King and a cardboard cutout Queen)\

then merge with GCS - (another two years before we @#$%&! that up and in that time we can re-introduce some of the good old boys we've all been missing)

then move to Tassie (three years)

Move to Darwin (1 year - the heat makes all our decisions turn to jelly - just think circa 2015).

Finally we merge with Essendon* and Collingwood and Hawthorn and Richmond and West Coast and Sydney and Adelaide and

we'll we win a flag before we completely @#$%&! things up.

Love it. And the name of the new super club could be...... the Greater Western Sydney Giants. Where do I sign?

Had a shower and first started humming this to myself then broke out into song

Knowing Me Knowing You Lyrics
No more carefree laughter
Silence ever after
Walking through an empty house, tears in my eyes
Here is where the story ends, this is goodbye

Knowing me, knowing you (ah-haa)
There is nothing we can do
Knowing me, knowing you (ah-haa)
We just have to face it, this time we're through
(This time we're through, this time we're through
This time we're through, we're really through)
Breaking up is never easy, i know but i have to go
(I have to go this time
I have to go, this time i know)
Knowing me, knowing you
It's the best i can do

Mem'ries (mem'ries), good days (good days), bad days (bad days)
They'll be (they'll be), with me (with me) always (always)
In these old familiar rooms children would play
Now there's only emptiness, nothing to say

Knowing me, knowing you (ah-haa)
There is nothing we can do
Knowing me, knowing you (ah-haa)
We just have to face it, this time we're through
(This time we're through, this time we're through
This time we're through, we're really through)
Breaking up is never easy, i know but i have to go
(I have to go this time
I have to go, this time i know)
Knowing me, knowing you
It's the best i can do..

I put great emphasis into the ahaaaàs

The league is in a bad state. Things have to change.
Over the last 5 years things have changed dramatically. Some teams have got lucky others got shafted.

Imagine the Hawks get Dangerfield !

I don't think this will happen but it is not impossible.
They apparently have a cool million sitting in their cap.
They are the club of choice. Sydney has been hobbled.
Hawks will lose about five players at the end of this season through retirement unless they want to go for four in a row. Their fringe players would get a game at about half the other clubs in the league but they aren't leaving because they know that in one or two years they'll probably be playing off for the flag when Hodge etc retire.
We are seeing a dynasty here. They are the new Carlton. The new Collingwood. Both rolled into one.

If we merge I will just stop following the footy and many more will do the same. What the AFL needs is for us to hand in the keys and say, thanks for the memories. I think that will rattle their cage, especially if we do it the week before the 2016 season starts.
