As far as I'm aware, Visy/Pratt won't pay out Malthouse. They were warned by the son in law.

The only way Malthouse goes early is if Mathieson pays his contract out.

We don't owe him any more than this year. He gets paid for that anyway. The only cost is a promotion of one of the assistants, probably Laidley, to the senior position.

Same thing was said about Port. Senior jobs are so hard to come by. They'd jump at it.

Then he should pay it now. Mick is a very dangerous man when he knows he's on his way out. His bitterness totally sabotaged our 2011 season when we were arguably the best team that year and poised to go back to back. But his ego and selfishness really destabilised the Club and the players.

Personally I don't think you can afford not to pay him out.

You're telling me that Laidley wouldn't do it for say $100k more. I reckon he would. No pressure to win games, just play kids and give them freedom

In fact, I'd say that if Mick were told he was going to be sacked and Laidley already accepted the caretaker role, Mick's ego might allow him to orchestrate some family deflection and he and the club could negotiate a reduced settlement...just to save Mick the embarrasment of a termination
