No the loss of Betts was never going to be softened by anything. Shouldn't have got Thomas either, I can't believe how shite he's been. What I'd do to see Garlett and Betts zipping around in our forward line again but that's OK we have Armfield... Good work MM you fool

Yeah I wish we had Betts and Garlett (and Waite) too so they could drag us up to the 8-10 range and we could all whinge about how those players aren't good enough to take us to the next level. Those guys are better value in their current teams than they are to us. If we're going to bottom out we might as well do it properly.

I care far less about those guys moving on than I do the decision to bring in C graders. Would much prefer to see kids getting beaten each week.

Exactly. Give the kids a few consecutive games so they can pick up the speed of AFL. Don't give them one game or the sub vest then drop them. How does it aid in their development without some consistentcy. Anyway, bringing in a B or C grader in place of them will get us exactly where?

I

I'm not interested in baseless speculation and rumour Jim.
Lets stick to the facts.

Ok!

http://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/ ... Betts.html

Have a look at all the form dips while he played for us.

Form dips?
WTF are you on about Jim?

In every year except his first he's averaged 10+ disposals and 3+ tackles per game.
Since 2009 he's kicked 38 goals per year except 2013 where he had a broken jaw.
Not bad for a forward pocket.

Unless I'm supposed to pour lemon juice on that stat sheet to display something that's not apparent, it only reinforces my point IMO.

FMD Eddie's stats are better than what l thought.

A 30 goal a season forward is a pipe dream at CFC land.

Imagine the tutelage Smith would of got running around with Eddie.

No probs - he has the Jones Tutt school of excellence to attend

eddie is and always has been one of the best small forwards in the league unfortunately we didn't have the supporting structures around him to utilize his true potential
for a small forward he was outstanding with limited support and structure

Significant seasonal form dips, always after mid-season (save for injuries), from 2009-2013.

The biggest problem with Eddie is also sometimes his strength: he demands the ball. Problem is he's 5'8, so any time he's matched for speed he's going to be beaten in the air unless they kick floaters and he uses his body strength and judgement of the flight, both of which are elite for his position.

That's all well and good, but when you get blanketed and you still demand the football rather than give others an opportunity with screens, ground work and quick hands, you start piling up the I50 targets while trying to get on the board, and you cough the ball up more, especially if someone can zone off in front of your leads.

Adelaide are smoothing this over right now with a shorter-kicking game style and better foot skills to open the game up a bit, but when the heat is turned up, Eddie will actually hurt them if he's true to his career form. That said, he's clearly fully fit for once in his career, so maybe some other long offered messages have finally resonated with him.

We had Eddie as our marking Centre Half Forward for all those years.

We should have had him at Full Forward.

..and the flat track bully is still going, ridiculous, lucky we got rid of him, I mean, why would we want to play that sort of game style when we can have two lumbering forwards who can't kick?

Don't complain.
Most of your didn't care he was leaving and wasn't worth the cash.

I cared he was leaving but didn't think he was worth the cash.
He'd be lucky to kick a goal a game in what is the worst team in the AFL.
