again, speaks volumes for how we do things here.

Or how he did things while here, under Cordy?

what team do you watch on the weekends jimmy?

we don't have anyone here ripped. menzel actually looks skinnier.

cripps is getting ripped, but he does that all on his own, outside of carlton, along with his sprint training. he's a footballer, though.

This post shows how little you understand about current trends. Senior AFL players have probably dropped 3-5 kilos on average over the last 18 months.

Less body weight = better running capacity

I'm talking about ripped as in muscle definition. Like Betts at adelaide is more ripped than his carlton version, which is no stretch to put down to his already admitted "harder training regime."

ripped isn't necessarily a correlation to weight gain. that would be buff.

not that i'm convinced without you providing data, or a news story which suggests players are getting lighter. even if you did, it's all relative – key position players and even some rucks, want extra weight because it equals strength which equals not getting pushed around in contests.

And also jimmy, old boy. what can you tell me about guys like biclavs or isaac smith who are big units who can like prairie dogs.

it seems like a pretty big generalisation, and if there's one thing we don't do here in the hallowed hallways of Talking Carlton; it's generalise.

I'm sorry you're offended because I couldn't tell which bodybuilding jargon you were using; thanks for the clarification.

When the team was struggling to do anything remotely right early on in games, Eddie would often do blink-and-miss-it (and the commentators constantly did blather-and-miss-it) acts to kick or assist a crucial goal. Lots of people in the football world should be made to watch his games again. Apart from that, his highlight reel shouldn't need pointing out. He might not have had the greatest discipline off the field - I'm not sure if that speculation is warranted anyway - but he gave a lot more than he usually gets credit for, and not just against weak sides. He was a shining light in frequently poor company. Whether we should have paid overs to keep him, I don't know, but I was gutted to lose him. Due to our unfathomably stupid media, he'll sadly be remembered more for his shorts than his immense talent and contribution to the game.

Well said. He was also very, very well liked by the playing group and his defection did not and does not sit well with many.

Finals player or not I also underestimated how good a player he was.

In addition fans loved him - talk about disengagement with fans, we potentially lost heaps when we lost him.

My mum is not a member after (I don't know how many) years.. When they got rid of 'her little fella', Eddie... she complained a lot... that's it... i'm not doing it anymore!

Eddies magic made the footy a little less robotic and boring. It's bad enough that we have to watch the game in a stale grey environment.

I don't blame her. I know how she feels.

Apparently according to the club all the fans love Murph and Gibbs, they are the only untouchables.

I don't see much wrong there. Key note is we were even playing finals then. We have replaced him whey Daisy who has been barely average AFL standard in his time with us. (And yes I know I said make Daisy captain in another thread if he got fit)

2011 EF V ESS
14 disp 4 goals 2 5 tackles, 1 goal assist

So what you're telling us is Eddie either kicked or set up at least 18 goals in 6 finals games plus he averaged 4.5 tackles per game!
Obviously a brilliant finals performer!
Great research Padre!

The loss of Betts may of been softened if we hadn't effectly traded him for Thomas and a bigger contract.

And when he's not performing and he continues to demand the ball then doesn't bring others into the game, or when he can't prepare himself well enough to shake groin niggles and maintain form, are you getting value for money then?

I wish we'd stumped up more for Eddie, but 4 years @ 500k? That was, and is, highly speculative. That said, I wonder how close we would have gotten with 3 years at 450-475k.

Lets stick to the facts.

No the loss of Betts was never going to be softened by anything. Shouldn't have got Thomas either, I can't believe how shite he's been. What I'd do to see Garlett and Betts zipping around in our forward line again but that's OK we have Armfield... Good work MM you fool

Have a look at all the form dips while he played for us.

Hey, Blue Beatle. I think I've been trumped in the maths stakes.
