Can't really see what his value in the team is.

we can only hope that ellard's effort and his never give up attitude catch onto other players with more ability and talent.

b'cos right now there's only 5 or 6 guys on our team trying. and ellard is one of them.

I don't think it's a virus that's contagious.

oh, but it is totally contagious. it's called team culture. if every player to a man is putting it all on the line and working for each other, others will follow when their number's called.

our problem is the other way it works.

one player sees gibbs not getting dirty and starts to think "well i'm not either." and then the next guy does the same and so on.

I overheard this discussion on Friday.

A: Malthouse is rebuilding this club.
B: Yeah, but it's taking the contagious...

We need 5 talls down the spine, 2 more talls for matchups and ruck relief, then we need 15 Ellards. We can't lose.

Played a more outside game on the weekend if the stats are anything to go by; that's a start.

This game is going to be awful, the 2 worst sides in the comp.

It is the kind of game I don't even want to watch, but probably will out of habit. In that some players will look good and it will get our hopes up, but then they will return to their rubbish selves as soon as any pressure is put on them against GWS.

Either that or we will just lose.

May as well play Graham, can't see what we have to lose really. If he is a dud who never becomes anything, well we think that will happen anyway.

Is Clem Smith injured?

I think we should drop Gibbs. It sends the right message because he played a terrible game so therefore it isn't a knee jerk reaction. He needs a kick up the bum.

Played well in the ressies. Surprised he wasn't killed the way he goes into contests.
Still needs a tank but that's not surprising. Our issue with him will be how we develop him

..we carry too many foot soldiers in our team, but that's because some of the high end talent is lazy.. ..pick work rate over talent, if that's the basic choice.. ..you can't pick players that time and again refuse to do the basic requirements of senior footy..

Don't doubt his effort for a minute - just his skills. The next time he has a 25m kick for goal I would bring on the sub in his place and let him take the kick.

Ellard goes ok with his set shots recently, I thought. Friday not so good, agreed.

Surely Graham has to come in now? Like to see Walsh play, he'll have a real go.

Put Gibbs as sub and leave him there.

I said the same thing at the start of last year, that he will apply himself and he will chase and he will be OK on set shots, and he burned me.

He's been pretty so-so after a decent shot conversion rate in his earlier years. He was dead-eye dick from set shots <45 m for a couple of seasons. Still managing to average almost a goal a game in his forward role, but in that stretch he has been held goalless 5 times, and scored multiple goals on just the 4 occasions. Averaging just short of 5 tackles in that time due to a slow start this season.

ThePsychologist wrote:

As everyone knows, I'd play both ahead of Ellard, but at this stage I'd play them ahead of Carrazzo too.

There is the option of elevating a rookie if we feel Sheehan will be out for another month, but that's it until round 12. That said, we might opt for Fields to send Rowe or Jaksch forward permanently if we can't get any goals out of talls. There's also the consideration of Byrne if Giles returns from injury this season.

Let's give DVR 2.5-3 quarters; he makes great decisions and runs hard.

i'd honestly rather a poor return from a player with a bigger upside.

Are you serious.

Gibbs was our best player by a long long long way last year. He has not been performing that well lately ... but he certainly will.

Ellard is at his best now ... and the standard is pretty low. I didn't see much effort from anyone on Friday night ... including Ellard.

The problem is the Madhouse ... He has completely stuffed up our club ... end of story.

Club hoping to get 30000 people to Sundays game
The worse 2 teams in the league on Mother's Day where both teams show a distinct lack of heart and effort
Let alone both being essentially unskilled lucky to get 13000 I reckon
