So here's what I think we should do.

Forget the present...the present is [REDACTED].

Forget the future..that's or another day.

Lets form a new club...The Carlton Historical Society.

Each Saturday we'll meet at 2:10pm at Princes Park and reminisce.

I'll tell about the day Kouta grabbed that ball one hand and my mate Keith and I just stared at each other and laughed, we laughed so @#$%&! hard I spilt my beer!

Someone else can tell about the time Jezza flew and a moment captured the beauty of this game.

Then we'll all let loose about this mark or that, while our minds return to the front lawns of our childhood and the kick to kicks we played, each of us taking a speccie for the sheer delight of defying gravity...even if it was only through the Vaseline lens of our wondrously Doris Day shining minds.

I'll tell of the bravery of Hunter, the Mastery of Doull and of the day the earth stood still when Big Nick fell. Maybe that's the moment our club started to crumble from within and we didn't know it. Maybe it takes time to kill the navy blue mammoth...but death comes to us all.

We'll share some beers...chat about flags and flogs and the day we kicked 30:30 against the Hawks. We'll bring our kids along, we'll leave the flesh alone (no cutting here) but we'll reclaim their souls.

We'll ignore the results...what does that matter...this club is now someone else's...but the club that dwells in our minds...that's ours forever.

Oh I know some can still go now...some can see beyond...but not me..and not others from the Historical Society...the pain cuts too deep...the necessary objectivity just can't be found

So for us I think it's time time to start a new club, a new emblem — the CHS blazing white on a navy blue background

and we'll chat and laugh and recall the fun we once had when this club was ours and the game was just a game but one we played well.

Cool post ; ) but isn't that we do anyway...? Talk about the old days...for a long time now that's all that remains...

Yep but lets do it at the ground, in person, and were we can leave smiling not old broken supporters huddled in their coats, the shadows of days past wrenching tears from our bluebagger hearts.

Yeah we can be like the 3 old Fitzroy supporters in the Jack Irish series, sitting in the bar surrounded by memorabilia and sharing memories of the old days. Unfortunately that appears to be the reality of being a Carlton supporter in 2015.

I was at the old Brunswick St oval today. Fitzroy beat Mazenod.

I was at the old Brunswick St oval today. Fitzroy could have beaten Carlton

Edited for accuracy.

I only started following footy in 1998, so most of my Carlton experiences have been poor team performances.

I believe I've seen the last of footy worth watching.

The walk from the zoo car park to a real home ground with a slightly mental home ground crowd.
No neon advertising signs.
No jacked up PA systems playing distorted loud shitty music.
No constant reminders to gamble (responsibly).

I understood the need to move away from Princes Park and I know it's not a viable venue now.

We left something behind there.

We've been souless ever since.

We did that last night. We talked about David 'Swan' McKay. I bet he was embarrassed by what he saw.

How are Swan's hands? They must be wreck after all the marks he took. Seriously, has there ever been a better mark?

I'll be there DB. I'll have to find a 6-pack of tin beer cans (none of the aluminium cr@p) which was my viewing platform when I first went to PP.

Come to think of it, I will have to pass the experience would be too painful.

brilliant idea kk!

We should...it would be fun...I'd say meet at the timekeeper's clock ......which is where I would stand on the tinnies platform, surrounded by old men in overcoats drinking furiously and smoking like chimney stacks out of Marty Poppins (the old men, not me, not then)...but of course the clock is gone along so many many other things

great idea DB!

I could talk about how Braddles kicked that goal from right in front of where I was standing on the Uni side of the ground. Also how a mate got our 22 year old selves into a corporate box at Princes Park the day Minton-Connell kicked that goal to sink West Coast who were on top of the ladder (1991?) In our jubilation we spied a boss from our work down on the fence just holding his kid up over his head with 2 of the biggest grins you'll ever see!! I'd love to hold my kid up like that at the footy - but (a) you're probably not allowed to anymore and (b) we are flower !
